Firefox clocks 50 million
p2pnet.net News:- It’s the Big Five O for Mozialla’s Firefox web browser.
Fifty Million copies have been downloaded making it the most popular downloader out there, relatively speaking.
The ‘relatively’ comes in when you consider Microsoft and its Internet Explorer have, wihtout question, been been dominant. But the fact Firefox has gained significant marketshare in a such a remarkably short period of time makes it the new Number One.
Bill and the Boyz will no doubt dismiss the very idea but, given the skepticism that now greets anything Windows, they must know their monopoly of the browser world is over.
The magic time for the magic number was 8:58 AM PST, April 29. And as we key this in, the numbers are rolling over – 50,690,772 – 773 – 774 – 775 ……

I’ve download firefox complete probably 50 times (various nighltlies and the 3 major releases) . It should count as one download but I suspect someones counting fifty…..the difference with IE is MS update actually works…..
Although I use firefox, IMO its going downhill…..perhaps I should try Opera

Do people actually pay for browsers? Outside of corporate situations i mean. Us regular folk, are there some out there who pay for browsers?

I paid for opera. My reasoning is this. With so many free browsers out there, who’s going to pay for one? So very few ppl actually use opera (sorry guys but it’s the truth) which means it’s “hackvalue” is very low compared with more popular and free browsers.
So opera’s “security” has more to do with “can’t be bothered” than “can’t be hacked”.
Oh and firefox fans. Shhhhhhhh! the more you brag about how unhackable and popular it is, the more notice the hackers will take. Both the ones that will hack it just to prove you wrong, and the ones who’ll hack it just to try and screw you for money.
