UK school asks REM for help
p2pnet.net News:- Pupils at the Reddish Vale Technology College in Britain are hoping US superstars REM will help them carry a Green message around the world.
The pupils’ three-minute film, which took them six months to produce, was to be shown at the World Expo 2005 that’s being staged in Japan until September 25, says the Manchester Evening News, which goes on:
“But without the backing of REM, the film, which won the Panasonic Witness News Competition to be shown at the event, will have to go back to the cutting room because it features the band’s songs, Everybody Hurts."
The story says the school tried for permission to use the track, but without success and now deputy headteacher Jenny Campbell has written to the band.
"The kids are really upset,” she’s quoted as saying. “The song is so apt for the subject – damage to our ecology does hurt us all."

which is where they heard,
“no profit for us?!?” (read: no nose candy?)…
meaning, sorry you can’t use that song or we’ll sick Cary Sherman on you and he’ll will show up at your school with his weasel mascot to begin brainwashing all the little maleable minds your school posseses, he’ll scare the kiddies too, have you seen his photo?….
an appeal to the band directly may result in a more favourable response, since I think Stipe is a reasonable person (unlike the execu-drones they contacted first off)
