New Sober worm likes soccer

p2pnet.net News:- A new, social engineering version of the infamous Sober worm is on the loose.

And it`s zeroing in on footy fans.

It attempts to, to fool people into executing its payload by pretending to be an email from football world governing body FIFA offering free tickets to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, says silicon.com, going on:

The latest Sober worm, which operates in a similar fashion to others of its kind, uses various email subject headers to try to entice people into opening its attachment. The virus then harvests email addresses from the victim and directs a barrage of spam to those addresses.

But it`s not stupid, according to silicon.com.

It, avoids sending messages to companies involved in the antivirus and security industry.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

    i hate football and soccer.

but this worm was in a .txt attachment in a spam email i got just today.

the email disguised itself as a bounced-back sent refusal of an email i had never sent. i saw it on my header program, and then went to my isp’s webmail page to see the complete text of the email.

i clicked on the attachment and NAV scanned it and saw that it was this worm.

so i deleted the email from the server without it having reached and infected my pc.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

the email i had supposedly sent (that failed to send) had an .edu url and sthe address looked something like wikipedia.
