TV on your cell phone?

Live streaming TV on your cell phone? California’s Idetic says that’s what it’s offering, and that it’s a world first.

Launched last November, Idetic’s MobiTV service is now being marketed as part of Sprint’s premium PCS Vision at $10 per month, it says.

"MobiTV provides a mobile phone-based alternative that delivers live broadcast news, and is convenient and easy-to-use, on a device that is always with you," states Idetic ceo Phillip Alvelda.

"The service delivers live television feeds to subscribers in real-time over existing cellular networks," says a company statement.

"MobiTV is compatible with most Java- or BREW-enabled mobile phones with color displays. Viewers do not need additional equipment beyond a subscription to MobiTV and their carrier’s data package."

Alvelda, quoted in a Reuters/Billboard story here, says, "We see this kind of distribution medium as the next stage for distribution of music content. We will establish a new beachhead."
