New Hollywood fantasy

p2pnet view Movies:- Every year – EVERY YEAR !!! – without fail Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios, and Warner Bros Entertainment — aka Hollywood — report record-breaking, mind-boggling, eye-popping revues in the billions of dollars, enough to feed a starving third world country for decades, not merely years or months.

But every day they claim they’re being ‘devastated’ by online ‘piracy’.

Years ago, before he departed for the Great Silver Screen in the Sky, Jack Valenti, Hollywood’s Main Man who also ran the MPAA, the LaLa Land truth readjustment agency, dreamed up the specious claim that file sharing was causing thousands of industry works to be thrown out of their jobs.

Of course, neither Valenti nor anyone else at the MPAA has troubled to mention most of the flicks which end up online get there thanks to Hollywood insiders and organised criminals using equipment made by the likes of Sony, one of the principal whiners, not kids with cams.

Hollywood spends millions of dollars 24/7 on phony ‘campaigns’ and agencies and institutions and you name it trying to convince the world it’s sunk in deep doo-doo instead of wallowing in cash like pigs in a trough.

It uses the lamescream print and electronic media, most of which it owns and/or controls in one way or another, to carry its ‘message’ and one of its latest moves has been to blow a wad of money on advertising agency Fathom Communications, USA, to come up with yet another piece of online PR puffoonery based on Valenti’s ancient assertion.

“Lost revenue means lost jobs”, it says. “Help protect the nearly 900,000 jobs in creative professions in New York City. Take a stand against digital piracy. Real people make the choice.”

Real people make the choice? What does that mean, exactly?

Meanwhile, over in LaLa Land, drugs and sex are the main currencies, and shysters still rule.

Er, who are Garrett and Bolkestein?

  5. Jon Says:

^^ I don’t (blush) know. But the last panel is so funny it doesn’t matter. :)

UPDATE: I just looked Matthew Garrett up here on p2pnet. I’d forgotten about this 2007 post — http://www.p2pnet.net/story/14208 He’s “one of the coders of the GPL’d software, used illegally by the MPAA”.

Bolkestein — “Internal Market Commissioner of the European Commission since 2000, leader of dutch right-wing liberal party VVD, known mainly by interventions in favor of the world’s second largest pharmaceutical company, of whose supervisory board he is a member, and by various policies in favor of big business” – (http://eupat.ffii.org/players/bolkestein/index.en.html, a link on the cartoon site)

    Cheers!

    Slow news day?

  7. Anonymous Says:

Bolkestein — this prick recently told on (Dutch) national television, he even has help with using e-mail. I’ll post a link, if I can find that specific program back, via uitzendinggemist.nl

  8. Judge Says:

    “It’s the economy stupid” …

‘Comment’ clipped for (possible) inclusion in (possibly) upcoming Shills, Trolls and Nutcases section in the new year. Stay tuned.

    Cheers! :)
