Russian nuns -
Spiritual values can now be accessed in CyberSpace, says a report from Russia.
How so?
"The nuns at the Novo-Tikhvin [Novotikhvinskiy] nunnery near Yekaterinburg [Sverdlovsk Region, Urals] have put up a web site for their cloister," says Rodion Antakov in Gateway to Russia here, going on:.
"Now there are virtual icons on the Internet, created by the sisters themselves."
Web-designer Sister Natalya creates virtual postcards showing images of saints, "by reproducing icons with a scanner and then using a graphic design tool on the computer," says Antakov. "The virtual postcard is ready within a few hours. The idea for this came up after numerous requests were received from believers in Sverdlovsk Region.
"This means Orthodox people can send congratulations to one another on angels’ feast days. There are lots of people nowadays who have the Internet, it is not unusual."
Antakov says the nuns’ site has been online "for a few years now" and the 120 sisters are, "proud that they get a lot of hits."
