Morse code v phone text

p2pnet.net News:- Text messengers are fast, FAST! Right? Right.

But how fast?

An Australian museum pitted Gordon Hill, a 93-year-old Morse code specialist, against 13-year-old Brittany Devlin in a battle of the messengers, says Missing Link.

Hill had a lifetime of experience using Morse. Devlin had two years of text messaging behind her, “and a slew of slang popular with chronic texters,“ says the post, going on, “A sentence was chosen at random from a teen magazine, and both contestants had to transmit the message as quickly as possible.”

Hill transmitted the complete message in 90 seconds. But Devlin didn’t finish sending her abbreviated version until 18 seconds later, says the Missing Link, adding:

“Hill then handedly defeated three other young foes armed with their mobile phones.”

I’m not sure about this but text messenging came about from outrageous air time charges whereas Morse Code was invented as the most efficient way to use the electric telegraph. After having to text some data into a cell phone, I have to ask with air time now mostly given away, why would you want to tik tak for 1 or 2 minutes what you can say in 8 seconds? Text messaging to me is like trying to go up the down escalator. You’ll get where you’re going, but it’ll take more steps than necessary.

In my experience people (adults at least, don’t know about goofy kids) only text when they don’t have the balls to actually enter a conversation with whatever news they need to transmit.

It make me wonder if all this computer technology is really an enhancement or a bond. I am both an avid hacker and ham redio operator. Another reason why “obsolte” Morse Code is a better way is because those (Ham Radio) airwaves are not monopolized by the cartels.
