Has p2pnet been de-Googled?

p2pnet.net News:- p2pnet is a Google news source and we`ve been receiving questions from readers asking why we`ve been `removed` from the indexing; or, why some stories are grabbed while others are ignored.

The short answer is: We don’t have a clue why this is. In fact, over quite a few months we`ve been asking the same question. We`ve used the email address Google supplies and, more recently, its beta auto-contact service. But we still haven`t had an answer.

Most posts are still being indexed but for some reason, the news bots are ignoring others which is, of course, a pain for anyone who`s relying on Google Alerts to let them know when a story goes up.

So today, on the heels of the latest `Why aren`t you being indexed?` email (our first four stories were picked up and the last seven were missed) we contacted Google`s tech PR department asking if they can shine some light on this. We’ll let you know if/when they reply.

For now:

No. We haven`t been dumped. (Not yet, anyhow : )

What do you do if you want to be sure you`re not missing anything?

Yahoo news indexes p2pnet as well and as far as we know, it hasn`t passed on a story.

Or use RSS (http://p2pnet.net/p2p.rss) which`ll let you know every time a story goes online.

And if you`re not in a hurry, try our newsletter. It`s a tiny post, as you can see from the first three entries for today`s. If you`re worried your user info might be used for some nefarious purpose, we don`t gather anything. Registration is just a way for us to get an email addie for the newsletter, and to let you post a comment under a story using your real or nick-name. And that’s all. Guaranteed.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

As a long time P2Pnet reader I had to laugh when reading this article. Anyone running PeerGuardian knows that P2Pnet is thoroughly engrained with Google advertising. Google made 17 attempts to connect to my computer the moment I clicked to read this story! It would be ironic if Google were to cut off its own revenue streams by removing its partners from its news index. But I highly doubt that it would intentionally do so.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Who knows why … google changes its algorithm quite often and differences can be seen between google sites (compare a search on googles .com .ca .co.uk for instance). Differences can be seen as different times of the month too. I went from being indexed by google to being completely removed back to a top rank over the span of several months.

ps: In terms of searches y! has been doing a better job of late and find their search engine superior but their news section sucks.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

If it has only been a day or two, or even a week I wouldnt worry about it. Could just be on Google’s end. I would check with their customer service though, if it isnt back on their news section soon. I would imagine you get a lot of traffic from Google, so it would be a bit of a loss if you just let it go…
