Phreaker hacked NZ Telecom
p2pnet.net News:- New Zealand broadband provider Telecom is still deciding whether or not to prosecute a voicemail phreaker who may have done it a favour.
That’s if they can find him/her.
The as-yet unidentified phone hacker tapped messages on Telecom public affairs manager John Goulter’s 027 Telecom mobile, says the New Zealand Press Association.
Goulter, “learnt the messages on his 027 Telecom mobile had been hacked only when he was told by a computer journalist yesterday”.
The phreaker had, “probably done Telecom a favour but if he knew the system could have been hacked, he could have called Telecom rather than hacking into a private message service,” says the NZPA, which quotes Goulter as saying, “It is good we have had a heads-up early on in the piece so we can nip it in the bud, that is true.”
His “best advice” for customers was to, “activate the pin number on their telephones” to protect their messages.
