DaBlade meets phpBB

p2pnet.net News:- DaBlade, based in Norway, had a nasty scare today.

“And I’m not the only one who had a scare,” he says. “I’ve gotten more emails from scared members today than I’ve gotten emails in general in a month lol.”

As was widely reported on Slyck, P2PForums and LinuxP2P, among others, when you went to the 666 File Sharing site you saw:

SITE TEMPORARILY CLOSED. UNDER INVESTIGATION
BREIN – Site owners operators and users under investigation for known copyright infringement.

What Brein, the Dutch entertainment cartel mouthpiece, could have had to do with a site who’s server is in California and that’s owned by a guy in Slovenia, wasn’t explained.

But it looked as if it might be real if only because honouring international boundaries has never troubled either the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) or MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).

But, DaBlade tells p2pnet, it was probably just an unpleasant hoax and things are now back to normal.

“SetBB probably didn’t update the server in time,” he states. “They host craploads
of forums, and this is probably because of them.”

If that’s the case, it’s something Slyck is thoroughly familiar with. The phpBB exploit all-but closed it down for quite a while in March.

And as we said then, it’s bad news when someone in the p2p community does something this stupid.

Pah! It was an inside job to get publicity. Apparantly, someone with “Admin Priviledges” did it for fun and didn’t tell the team.

    Yeah right. They’re blaming thats_kiff.

    Stunt. Publicity. Hilarious

_Nessmaster_ is blaming thats_kiff. I don’t know who did it, and I frankly don’t care, as long as the site’s still up and running. thats_kiff and Fast (the two admins who haven’t been online in ages) have been temporarily de-admined, until they return. I don’t know if it was thats_kiff, some idiot using a phpBB exploit or santa claus, but as long as the site’s up, it doesn’t matter.
And we did take it seriously, considering the large amount of sites taken down lately. I admit I made a big fuss about it, but hell, I was scared. People can’t think clearly when they’re panicking ;)
I think this is a result of the phpBB group posting changelogs immediately after a release, some idiot found an unupdated forum and tested his/her “31337 haxx0rzing” skills. Pathetic…
And it’s not for publicity. I admit that the eXscam rant I did when it was first released was partially for publicity (but I was serious about what I said), but this wasn’t for publicity. You can’t blame us for being scared of being sued or taken down.
Ah well, life goes on, so does 666FS ;)

This is great. The hoax master has ditched us, setbb has ditched us, and now slyck is ditching us. I have come to respect slyck over time and I am vert loyal to the site. But this makes me have second thoughts about what slyck is really about? If we can’t even talk about something like this without getting flamed for publicising, then might as well not post at all!!! Today was a bad day for me in general, and I just made a new enemy -> slyck.com Thanks alot guys for ditching us when we were wounded! Thanks for your ever so loving support and help when we needed it and you guys just screewed us over. Thanks!

I’ve been following what has been said around plenty of forums and everywhere I saw sympathy and concern for the guys from 666fs, inlcluding slyck. The 666fs guys should be directing their anger at the person who started this ugly ball rolling in the first place not the people who (originally at least) tried to help. There’s a lot to be said about dealing with this things in private. Once people saw the original problem was down to an internal hoax which had tricked them as well, no surprise that things went downhill from there. The 666fs guys are likeable, respected guys imho and this should be put behind everyone and put down to experience.

The blame should lie at the feet of the person who started the j/k. There could have been no misunderstandings or disagreement without the act of this thoughtless person. Its a shame that one idiot can cause so much trouble. Lets not see a rift among friends and genuine p2p’ers. Its just not worth it.
