Latvian counterfeit ring
p2pnet.net News:- A counterfeit operation that allegedly made and sold millions of copies of Microsoft software has been shut down in Latvia.
It had been operating for several years, “and caused losses to the US software producer of about 3.0 million dollars (two million euros),” Agency France Presse quotes police spokeswoman Kristine Mezaraupe as saying, and going on:
“The Latvian police ordered products from the online store to try to determine where it originated.
“That led them to an apartment in Riga which they raided on May 11, seizing equipment for copying software and huge stocks of blank CDs, diskettes, labels, hologrammes, manuals and packaging material.”
Two people in their twenties were arrested, adds AFP.

Millions of copys and Microsoft’s losses are 3 million bucks??!!
So does that mean MS admits a Latvian copy is worth only 3 dollars or is this a typo?

It was a spokesperson for the Latvian police agency who made the statement regarding the economic losses. I’m sure that M$’s PR spinmeisters will, uh, ‘correct’ the, uh, ‘preliminary estimate’ of these, uh, ‘losses’.
