I live in a border city, and I can tell you for a fact that MANY people who used to cross all the time to go shopping or on vacation have given up on it. There was some lady the other week that was raped by a US customs officer in a holding-cell (for not declaring a single 1L basket of raspberries, and having a nice body) when trying to cross at the Ambassador Bridge and has filed a lawsuit.

People are sick of the jack-booted tyranny happening in the states and are staying away, which is sad. There are many families split across the border and this is making for much trouble. It used to be a very open border. Now you need passports and must endure an interrogation and possible arrest if you don't stroke the border-guards ego enough. Sometimes they will take your car apart, at your expense.

BTW Canada should impose a $5.50 fee for every barrel of oil crossing the border in the other direction. Believe me, that would get those American gov't azzholes to understand just WHO has the upper hand. But don't expect that from our asslicking clowns in Ottawa. Those snivelling cowards side with the corporate establishment over the interests of the people every time.

It used to be fairly commonplace, in certain border communities at least, for people to pop across the border for a meal, or to see a movie. I guess this is going to put an end to that type of thing, if the shenanigans of of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol haven't already.

Is it any wonder that ever since the TSA got started that tourism to the US has cratered? Who in their right minds wants some government, especially a government not their own, plundering into their background?

And of course, someone has to pay for all these security "enhancements", so the price on everything will be and is going up. This is just one small part of that increase.

Since all the jobs have left the US and aren't coming back, guess someone else has to pay for it because most of the US citizenry won't have the extra money to foot the bill.

Now what we really need is some of those job losses to strike home in Washington DC so they get a good grip on what the American public has been going through.

No one but the politicians can make bills to be paid for by the US citizens and there is where the change needs to happen. The only reason we are in debt is because of our spend happy politicians. Now that they've spend all the money that would have made sure that Social Security would have paid for itself self, they want to cut the benefits. They paid for those raids with IOUs that have yet to return a single dollar back to the benefit programs they raided for cash. I'm ready to see some politicians held responsible for these actions.
