Defector ‘fabricated’ tales of Iraq bioweapons

p2pnet view Politics:- “The defector who convinced the White House that Iraq had a secret biological weapons programme has admitted for the first time that he lied about his story, then watched in shock as it was used to justify the war”, says the Guardian.

“Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, codenamed Curveball by German and American intelligence officials who dealt with his claims, has told the Guardian that he fabricated tales of mobile bioweapons trucks and clandestine factories in an attempt to bring down the Saddam Hussein regime, from which he had fled in 1995″, says the story, quoting ‘Curveball’ as stating >>>

Maybe I was right, maybe I was not right. They gave me this chance. I had the chance to fabricate something to topple the regime. I and my sons are proud of that and we are proud that we were the reason to give Iraq the margin of democracy.

The admission comes just after the eighth anniversary of Colin Powell’s speech to the United Nations in which the then-US secretary of state relied heavily on lies that Janabi had told the German secret service, the BND. It also follows the release of former defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s memoirs, in which he admitted Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction programme.

“In a series of meetings with the Guardian in Germany where he has been granted asylum, he said he had told a German official, who he identified as Dr Paul, about mobile bioweapons trucks throughout 2000″, says the Guardian, going on:

“He said the BND had identified him as a Baghdad-trained chemical engineer and approached him shortly after 13 March of that year, looking for inside information about Saddam’s Iraq.

“I had a problem with the Saddam regime,” he said. “I wanted to get rid of him and now I had this chance.”

Adds the story, “With the US now leaving Iraq, Janabi said he was comfortable with what he did, despite the chaos of the past eight years and the civilian death toll in Iraq, which stands at more than 100,000.

“I tell you something when I hear anybody — not just in Iraq but in any war — [is] killed, I am very sad”, he’s quoted as stating.

“But give me another solution. Can you give me another solution? Believe me, there was no other way to bring about freedom to Iraq. There were no other possibilities.”

I think they should deport him and his family back to Iraq, where he’ll be given a royal welcome.

What a scum bag, and what stupid idiots the general public were for not understanding what this was about from the get-go. Gov’ts don’t go to war to give anyone “freedom”, you dumb shmucks.

The best part: “But give me another solution. Can you give me another solution? Believe me, there was no other way to bring about freedom to Iraq. There were no other possibilities.” And who does this asshole think he is to make that decision to help plunge a country into war which will mean the death of millions.

Maybe what happened in Egypt could have easily happened in Iraq given time. But nooooooooooo this retarded dupe had to help the Americans propaganda campaign to invade Iraq. Now over ONE MILLION are dead. I hope this jerk reaps what he’s sewn one day, and with all the assshole soldiers that participate in these invasions (they are the absolute worst humanity has to offer.)

  3. Anonymous Says:

heh the americans would have invaded with or without this guy

Not mentioned in the Guardian piece is that CIA analysts always had strong doubts about Curveball’s story, and that’s why the Neocons created the OSP, a quasi-intelligence bureau established under the vice-president’s office, so they could “stovepipe” these cherry-picked stories directly to President Bush’s desk, in order to bypass the opinions of career CIA specialists who stood to get in the way of this “slam dunk”- as the ass-kissing CIA director George Tenet once put it.

  5. Anonymous Says:

They knew this was total nonsense.

This is all just a flimsy fabricated excuse.

The western powers KNEW what Sadam had and when the chemical agents were due to expire (what their shelf life was) as they sold them to him in the first place.

This poor sap is a patsy, even a willing one it would seem.

  6. Anonymous Says:

The leaked Downing St. Memo showed that Tony Blair knew the whole “weapons of mass destruction” spiel was a pack of lies. A yes-man to the core, he went along with it anyway.

  7. Thinker Says:

Saddam was tried hung (by a dubious court system) for what he did to the Irak people.
When will the hangers and their masters be tried in a no dubious court?

  8. Devil's Advocate Says:

“The defector who convinced the White House that Iraq had a secret biological weapons…”

Another classic work of fiction from the White House.
They should put out a “best of” book of these fairy tales, making sure to include other masterpieces, such as “19 Arabs With Boxcutters”.
