Google gives away free notebooks

p2pnet view P2P | Advertising:- Giant US advertising company Google, soon to be under new management, is giving away free notebooks.

Chrome impregnated notebooks, that is.

“We have a limited number of Chrome notebooks to distribute”, it says, going on, “if you live in the United States, are at least 18 years old, and would like to be considered for our small Pilot program, please fill this out.

“It should take about 15 minutes. We’ll review the requests that come in and contact you if you’ve been selected.”

If and when Chrome notebooks become popular, Google won’t have to worry so much about figuring out new ways to mine user data.

Talk about a captive audience … 8-)

To be fair, it’s a nice-looking little netbook that comes preinstalled with a limited flavour of Linux. If in time it becomes possible to buy laptops without the Windows tax by getting this instead, I wouldn’t complain.

Of course, if I got one of these for free I’d wipe it and install Ubuntu in a heartbeat.

Windows replaced by Google. Same old same old.

    Cheers!

Depends on how much money Google asks from the OEMs. I’m hoping that for such a “thin-client” product, it’ll be either very little or perhaps even nothing at all.
