Netscape 8.0 arrives

p2pnet.net News:- “The new Netscape 8.0 browser combines Firefox and Internet Explorer and lets YOU choose your e-mail and search engine!”

That’s what AOL promises with the release of its new, free Netscape 8. And, “If you go to a known dangerous Web site, Netscape WARNS you BEFORE you get there.”

Netscape 8 has tabbed browsing and a new Passcard Manager that, “remembers all your screen names and passwords and can auto-fill that information on sites”.

Just like Firefox.

Good marketing and after all, once upon a time it was THE browser.

But that was then.

Today, who needs it?

Exactly: just stick with Firefox. Netscape 8 offers no plausible advantages over Firefox and will just be bloated, slow and useless to minimalists like myself.

    Only time will tell, though.

I dled the same & I tested it. Gets blocked with some banking sites using javasctipts & high grade encryptation. The pwd manager doesn’t work well. Too heavy. Will stay with Firfox & its extensions esp “view in IE” if nĂ©cessary.

I installed it, just to give it a run…and it slowed my machine noticeably. That never happened with any Netscape product before. I don’t think this is Netscape anymore…it’s probably All AOL, which means spyware and adware infesting garbage. I had AOL years ago and I just used their service to gain access to the internet…where I used Netscape. It was a irratation to be having to open their pathetic excuse for a browser just to keep myself online because they had this pain in the ass idle browser program which would log you off if you didn’t seem to be using their browser. I wouldn’t recommend anyone downloading this product, not after what it did to my machine.
