EU tells Microsoft to pay up
p2pnet.net News :- From June 1 onwards, Microsoft could be fined up to 5% of its daily global turnover for every day it fails to live up to the 2004 European Commission judgement under which it was found guilty of abusing its monopoly position in Europe.
Brussels has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace, says the BBC, quoting European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes as saying, “We are waiting for the Microsoft people to do their homework.”
Kroes said it was “too early” to say if the case against Microsoft could be reopened.
More than a year ago Gates was ordered to pay $640 milllion and to, “open up its core software systems to rivals” to “enable other software manufacturers to make programs that worked more seamlessly with Microsoft’s Windows operating system, ther BBC points out, adding Microsoft was also ordered to provide a version of Windows without Windows Media Player.
