Apple and Intel rumours abound
p2pnet.net News:- Apple says news that it’s striking some kind of deal with Intel is mere rumour, but the stories - mostly based on a Wall Street Jornal report - continue to abound.
And they’re not doing Apple any harm.
“Reports that Apple Computer is in talks to start using Intel chips in Macintosh computers sent tech stocks surging on Monday,” says CNN Money.
“Apple stock was up $2.21, or more than 5 percent. The reason: Apple’s computers are widely considered first-rate but expensive. A deal to use Intel’s low-cost chips might help reduce the price of Apple’s machines, allowing Macs to pick up market share.”
A “defection by Apple to Intel would be a moral victory at most for the chip vendor,” says vnunet.com. Last year Apple accounted for only 2.3 per cent of worldwide desktop shipments, a market which is dominated by Intel.
“If IBM loses the Apple business, the company would still have deals in place with Nintendo and Microsoft to use the Power chip in their upcoming Revolution and Xbox 360 gaming devices.”
If the rumous turn out to be true, will Steve Jobs sue the Wall Street Journal in the same way that it’s currently trying to sue web publications AppleInsider, Think Secret and PowerPage for revealing ‘trade secrets’?
Don’t stay tuned.
