Infineon, IBM, memory project
p2pnet.net News:- IBM, Germany’s Infineon Technologies AG and Taiwan’s Macronix International Co have announced a joint research project to explore phase-change computer memory (PCM).
PCM stores data by changing the state of a special material from an amorphous to a crystalline structure, rather than storing data as an electrical charge, say the companies, going on:
“While in its early stages, the technology shows potential for high speed, high density storage of data, while retaining data even when power is turned off.”
The research work will be conducted at IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, and the IBM Almaden Research Lab in San Jose, CA.
Approximately 20-25 employees from across the three companies will be dedicated to this project.

Sounds pretty cool, as long as it’s not based on a spinning disc!!! The wheel is just a little younger that fire and we need to loose it in digital devices if computing is to move forward.
