EliteTorrents down

p2pnet.net News:- It looks like the phpBB hacker has been back, this time with EliteTorrents as the victim.

And once again, alarmists are reporting the hack almost as if it’s a real shut-down.

Recently, DaBlade’s 666 File Sharing site was hit by someone apparently exploiting the infamous phpBB vulnerability, but it was soon back online.

Dutch RIAA clone Brein was cast as the bad guy that time around.

Now it’s the FBI and US Department of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. But as with the DaBlade incident, it’s riddled with clues pointing to the fact it may be down to someone’s warped sense of humour.

Among tell-tale signs are the similarity in the style of the wording and physical appearance of the two defaced sites. And since when was US Customs involved in closing down BT sites?

=================

UPDATE: It seems this is genuine after all (see the 2nd comment [thanks Brant] ). Here’s a fresh post with details from an official statement.)

i knew something was fishy… i dont think any government agency would use source art (logos etc) from the site they were shutting down… just not their style

  2. Reader's Write Says:

    http://www.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel05/bittorrent052505.htm

    Seems to be real.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

yea wow… cant really argue with a .gov article

  4. Reader's Write Says:

qutoe “The Motion Picture Association of America provided valuable assistance to the investigation.”

Looks like the mpaa went out and got some help, since they couldn’t stop bittorrent themselves

  5. Reader's Write Says:

for the clip from the ice.gov site (they don’t seem to be able to handle the load):
    http://www.huuhaa.info/clip0035.avi.torrent

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Why is “RTJKJAS” at the bottom of the http://elitetorrents.org/ page?? what does that mean? some kind of tag? hacker mark? wtf is it?

  7. Reader's Write Says:

Its hidden, you have to select all and scroll down to see it.

  8. Reader's Write Says:

I dont know what that tag is… but man… that page’s source burns my eyes! @_@ And almost crashed firefox. XD
Bleh… so much junk in the source!

    xmlns:v=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml”
    xmlns:o=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”
    xmlns:w=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word”
    xmlns:st1=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”
    xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40″>

Does that mean they made it in Word? XD

and what does that RTJKJAS mean? O.o

  9. Reader's Write Says:

Slashdot says its real… and so does a CNN site… but a LOT of people still insist it was just hacked… This is very confusing…

My main problem is how terribly that shutdown page is coded… thats the worst source I’ve ever seen, and it was made in Word… why would the feds do it like that…
And who put this RTJKJAS tag at the end?

    http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/25/226228&tid=95&tid=17

  10. Reader's Write Says:

I’ve noticed that one as well, and google comes back with no results :|

  11. Reader's Write Says:

    Well, tbh, I’m just wondering.

I very much doubt they have been given permission by ET to use their graphics.

So, let me get this straight, they’re complaining that everyone doesn’t respect IP.

Then, they’re using somone else’s copyrighted, Intellectual Property … bloody pirates.

And they expect sane people to believe their bullsh!t.

C’mon people, wake up to these hypocrite pigopolist powermongering propoganda speaking, sneaky thieves.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

wow, I didn’t think that it was for real but, this seem to show it.
    Liono

  13. Reader's Write Says:

I can’t see anything. But what about the fbi page about ET?

  14. Reader's Write Says:

As you can see, The Design of the FBI are just stolen from the internet, then he typed some story about the site beeing Shut down. (YEAH RIGHT)

I mean, why isn’t Suprnova.org shut down by the FBI then?
    It’s more popular then ET.

    And the Second thing:
The Design looks just to much work for the FBI to make,
When they realy shut down that site , they just Shut it down and the link would end up as a Don’t Excist link :)

    And look at this:

Individuals involved in the operation and use of
the Elite Torrents network are under investigation
    for criminal copyright infringement

    ROFLMAO!!!!
So they would investigate all the 100.000 people that used ET?
I mean they live all over the world so it would be impossible to do a thing like that.

So with other words: This guy has just copied some things from the internet made up a story and VOILA!
There you have a faking FBI Shut down, he just know how to hack thats all ;)

    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files/image004.jpg

    Get it???

THE IMAGES ARE ALL NAMED THE SAME AND ONLY HAVE THER NUMBERS!
The images are coming from a Folder named:
    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files

What means That it looks like the work of a hacker that saved some images in that folder and used it for his project that is used to hack this site and make people think it’s realy shut down by the FBI

    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files/image001.png

    is the FBI SIGN

    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files/image002.gif

    is the HOMELAND security Sign

    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files/image003.jpg

    is the EliteTorrent Sign

    Shut%20Down%20By%20FBI%20AND%20ICE_files/image004.jpg

Dunno what Image this is :/

  17. Reader's Write Says:

they commented that the copy of starwars was an inside copy available only to “hollywood insiders”. if you ask me, the RIAA and MPAA are giving away some these movies so they can claim theft. they say, they’re losing all this money right?, but starwars, despite the fact that it came out on the net 6 hours or so before it was released, still had a ticket gross of $158 mill. i think the numbers are hugely inflated and that (to a small degree) the sites are being framed.

  18. Reader's Write Says:

the more i read, the more and more this seems rediculously like a hacker to me. the only thing i’m still unclear on is, if it is a hacker, why did FBI.gov have a post on it (he hack that too??).

p.s. image004 is just the elitetorrents sign.

  19. Reader's Write Says:

was lookin at the site again, and ok, maybe customs could be involved (i think thats a stretch), and the FBI would certainly be involved, but where does homeland security come into play? correct me if i’m wrong… but isnt homeland security just supposed to help stop terrorist threats? (if bittorrent counts as a terrorist threat, that would simply be the most rediculous thing i’ve ever heard).

  20. Reader's Write Says:

can you people READ !!!! ????? it sez here on thepage “”this is genuine after all (see the 2nd comment [thanks Brant] ). Here’s a fresh post with details from an official statement.)”" and theres a LINK !!!

  21. Reader's Write Says:

so i guess the “RTJKJAS” at the bottom of the page is just the FBI being funny… everyone loves easter eggs right?

  22. Reader's Write Says:

As a fellow p2p user, I would like to know if anyone has begun building resources for the defense of file sharing. I know that the suits that have been brought to court and the closing of ET and other sites is pissing all of us off. We need to begin fighting this. We need to examine the law, find holes, find ways to navigate the bullcrap that the purveyors of the American government have been shoveling. People like us know that what they are doing is wrong, but I have yet to see a media outlet that would be willing to publicize our view of the outrages that have been done in the name of justice or give a voice to those that have been brought to court over file sharing.
I know that many people who peruse this site are not US citizens and have the ability to poke fun at those of us who live under a now oppressive government, but I am an american. I am ashamed of what this country has done in the name of freedom and what will happen if no one stands up to fight.
I realize that I am now just ranting and have gotten off-topic, but I need to get this out. Please stop reading if you wish.
The fact that no media has covered the return of americans from the war in Iraq is just pissing me off. At one time, the press had the ability to be objective, but now, they have all become part of problem with america-money can buy democracy and turn it into facism. As of now, http://icasualties.org/oif/ reports total military casualties as 1838 and http://www.iraqbodycount.net/database/ reports total civilian casualties between 21834 and 24776. The fact that Homeland Security is using its resources to bring down file sharers is a disgrace to every soldier or civilian that has died in that place. A quick Google search found a great example of what Americans who blindly follow the government do to devalue the lives of soldiers in this uneeded war. http://powerlineblog.com/archives/009245.php is full of comments that these soldiers are heroes and should be venerated and that any media attempting to cover the return of corpses should burn in hell for their outrageous request. I agree that they have died for something and deserve support, but the fact that americans don’t realize what the war has cost and how many have died dishonors every man and woman in uniform. The use of an agency meant to bolster freedom and oppose terrorism is being used as the right hand of the RIAA and MPAA, the only ones who can afford freedom since it costs so much.
Americans need to fight for what is right and make others aware of what is going on. We need a voice to speak out and have the media listen. We need the backing of the sheeple if we are ever to foster change from what America has become. Post a comment or start a new thread or something so that we can think about what WILL make a difference, instead of anonymously giving commentary on what is going on (yes, I know I’m posting anonymously, but if I gave out my name, then I would look forward to how repressive Homeland Security can be.
