"WARNING: This Website has been closed following the legal procedure at the Juzgado de lo Penal nº 3 of Madrid. For any claim, please contact us at: Weblisten, S.A., Post Office Box nº 6148, 28080 Madrid - Spain"

That’s what you see when you hit Spain’s WebListen site and it’s a, "“sad day for on line music,” posts museekster.com.

“WebListen, one of the true pioneers of paid Music Services was forced to shut down after a court ruling of the Juzgado de lo Penal nº 3 in Madrid."

The story says WebListen, based in Madrid, Spain, kicked off in 1998, when the extension .mp3 was still unknown to most people.

“Though licenses were granted by authors and artists, Weblisten never came to agreements with record labels," it states, going on:

“The legal battle went on for years, but this Spanish David eventually was beaten by the Music Industry Goliath.

“Goodbye to unlimited downloading of unprotected mp3’s, a true loss."

Museekster says details on the court ruling aren’t known at the moment.

Stay tuned,

  1. Reader's Write Says:

This is a blatant example of the organized crime stifling capitalism. These guys apparantly were paying the artists for their works. Unfortunately, they did not come to the agreement with the entertainment mob over the protection money owed to them. Unfortunately, artists now have lost another source of income. WebListen’s customers will propbable go to LimeWire for their needs now. (At least that is what i hope.)
