BenQ gets Siemens phone biz
p2pnet.net News:- Germany`s Siemens is to sell its mobile phone unit to Taiwan’s BenQ.
The business lost 500 million euros ($613 million) last year and, the deal essentially means Siemens is paying BenQ to take the business, which is losing 1.5 million euros a day, says Deutsche Welle, going on:
“Under terms of the deal, BenQ can use the Siemens brand name for five years. The Taiwanese company will take over the 6,000 people employed in the business ‘under existing contractual conditions,’ Siemens said.
“Siemens will buy 50 million euros worth of new shares in BenQ, giving it a 2.5 percent stake in the firm.”
BenQ, an Acer spin-off, has just announced the imminent arrival of a Blu-ray DVD burner.
