Iranian blogger faces death

p2pnet.net News:- Reporters Without Borders is asking all bloggers to support 25-year-old Mojtaba Saminejad in Iran.

He’s already been sentenced to two years in prison by a Tehran revolutionary court for “insulting the Supreme Guide” and on June 22 is to be tried for “insulting the prophets,” which carries the death penalty.

“All blogosphere messages of solidarity are welcome,” says RWB.

“We know that these message reach the prisoners and help put pressure on the Iranian authorities, especially in the run-up to the presidential election. It is vital for people to talk about Mojtaba.”

Mohammad Saifzadeh, Mojtaba’s lawyer, says, “This extremely serious accusation could result in his being found guilty of apostasy, which carries the death penalty under article 512 of the Islamic criminal code.”

Internet users have dedicated a blog to him in both English and Farsi.

“Some 50 Iranian bloggers are openly backing him,” says RWB, adding:

“The Penlog bloggers group has also firmly condemned his conviction.”

Mojtaba is currently in Ghezel Hesar jail alongside inmates convicted of murder and other serious crimes, says the English language protest site.

As much as we might be upset at this ort that news about, p2p, fair use or other IP matters, this does put things in perspective.

And people wonder why I think religion is a bad thing.

I wonder if the Iranian authories have an email address. I’d love to rattle off a few emails to get their blood boiling. And while this may sound incredibly racist, (I assure you all that it is in the spirit of enraging authories and causing trouble only) I’d really like to explain to them how much I’d like to wipe my butt with their holy scriptures and their “Supreme Guide” just to see if they try to extradite me.

Recently a few U.S. governors have put a moratorium on the death penalty because of the high number of not-guilty cases found in the last few years. Most were found not-guilty because of DNA testing.

My point is that not only are there places in this world can you be convicted of a stupid crime but even in the U.S. you can be stupidly convicted of a serious crime.

Bush & Rumsfeld think nothing of imprisoning people for years. What if some country did that to Americans? A couple months ago a large number of people were released from U.S. custody in Guantanamo because it was determined they posed no threat, some had been there imprisoned over two years…

Why are we so outraged at some things and not others?

Are we, in a sense, racists?
