Gartner on over-hyped hype
p2pnet.net News:- Who loves e-viruses? Security firms, for obvious reasons. And media outlets because they generate headlines.
But e-bugs aren’t all computer users have to worry about.
There’s the fear of mobile malware, of “unsafe” VoIP, “the equation of regulatory compliance with security” and, the threat of a voracious, fast spreading superworm, says PC World, quoting the Gartner research firm.
But it also attributes to the company the observation that a number of the most promoted security risks are “nothing more than a load of hype”.
Coincidentally, on its web page, Gartner hypes a raft of reports called Technology Hype Cycles, “a checklist of technologies that may be relevant to your future business processes or IT infrastructure”?
