p2pnet.net Review:- If the launch of a solar-powered space-sail is the stuff of science fiction, so is this.

A firm called OmniMedia (AMOS) and another called Intent MediaWorks (Andy?) say they’ve “implemented the solution to the piracy problem”.

What pirate problem? They must mean the crime gangs that are counterfeiting the entertainment and software cartel DVDs and CD and flogging the results on the blackmarkets.

Amos and Andy can’t be referring to the p2p networks because nothing is stolen, there, and there are no injured third parties.

Wait, though. That is what they’re doing. They’re boosting their, “state of the art encryption, tracking, and distribution system, built to stop the theft of music and films through the Internet”.

“DCIA estimates that in the time-span it took iTunes to sell 350 Million tracks, 70 Billion dollar’s worth of music and film have been illegally downloaded via the peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and the WEB,” says the promo blurb, the DCIA being the Distributed Computing Industry Association, Sharman Networks’ pseudo trade organization which is also pals with Altnet, the father of spyware and promoter of the tacky Truenames DRM application.

“Billions of dollars are unfairly stolen from artists and content creators," say Amos and Andy. [Can something be ‘fairly’ stolen? – Ed]

But the, “new AMOS/INTENT platform encrypts music and film files, launches it into the P2P jungle attached to a sponsor-ad, essentially making the track a ‘free gift’ from advertiser to consumer.”

Ahhhh. "Sponsor-ad" and "advertiser to consumer".

Now it all becomes crystal clear.

“By executing this new business model, AMOS/INTENT connects the proven power of ad-dollars directly into the plight of the artist, without charging the consumer.”

Don’t bother to stay tuned.
