The Slapper is a great idea…but it only slaps about six sites??

Does anyone know where/how we can get updates of new sites? If someone could compile a list of ALL the major spamvertized sites and post it on Limewire or Emule we could _really_ make the spammers sweat!

Had Lycos continued their project, it would have been spammers on the defensive instead of spammees. There would be very little incentive to spam if all it did was shut down the spamvertised website.

This little program is simply there to attempt to revive the effort. If fact is is even better due to the fact that any website operator or ISP can set it up to bombard the spammers clogging up their users’ inboxes. Of course this idea will not get much publicity due to the fact that it is not hosted by a big company, but it should. This is one reason why I like p2pnet.net . This site reports many good stories that do no get much attention elsewhere.

This applet is written in Java, so it works with ANY browser that will run a signed applet. Just go to the PsammerSlapper page, accept the certificate, and fight the spam. It does not send mail, it visits the
websites advertised in spam increasing the cost of operating spamvertised sites.

I gather this is strickly for POP3 mail and for Windoze only. I would happily join the effort but alas my requirements for e-mail don’t fit this. I run linux and use the browser to access mail, not something like Outlook or the like.

Trusting the applet gives the applet the same rights that your browser has. The only thing that this applet uses the extra privileges for is to connect to the various website on the list. The source code is included in the SpammerSlapper.jar file . You can view the source by unzipping the jar file. Some unzipping programs require that you rename SpammerSlapper.jar to SpammerSlapper.zip .

If you get a cookie from a website on the shitlist, just block it. These cookies are sent by the websites visited by the applet.
