Is Live 8 dead in Canada?

p2pnet.net News:- Bob Geldorf, who’s organizing – or trying to - Canada’s Live 8 ‘pop-stars for Africa,’ denies the lineup is “loaded with musical has-beens”.

Geldorf, who could himself be described as one such, recently battled with eBay over tickets for the show which were being auctioned off.

The Canadian performance is slated for Barrie, a city north of Toronto, and will be the smallest of eight performances due to go on simultaneously around the world, says the Canadian Press, adding:

“While the shows in London and Philadelphia are set to feature monster acts such as U2, Coldplay, R.E.M, Destiny’s Child and Stevie Wonder, the Canadian event has come under fire for what some perceive as a lacklustre lineup.

” ‘The Tragically Un-hip?” asked a Toronto Star headline displayed above a picture of grizzled homegrown music veterans including Burton Cummings and Bruce Cockburn - both scheduled to play in Barrie.”

The other Live 8 shows will be held in Paris, Berlin, Rome, Tokyo and Johannesburg, South Africa.

One Response to “Is Live 8 dead in Canada?”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

I find it frustrating that the currently rich-and-famous of the recording industry are claiming they want to change trade rules to be “more fair” given the trade rules relating to trade in cultural goods are some of the least fair trade rules that exist. I find it frustrating that they claim to worry about the debt burden of poor countries while simultaneously lobbying internationally in support of laws that will cause massive amounts of royalty fees to be sent from poor countries to the richest countries.
