Awesome Sauce

cptruk

Last February my wife Liz created Dad’s Westcoast Wildfire Awesome Sauce to help keep the wolf from our door, and p2pnet online.

It’s a Sauce piquante like no other, and guaranteed to add savour and flavour to any meal.

Not wanting to pollute ourselves or others we decided to create a product which has no additives, pesticides, chemicals, artificial ‘flavours’ or preservatives.

Just awesome goodliness …

What can you use it or on? Here are just a few ideas from happy customers.

Why hot sauce? We had a fridge-full of other sauces because I was always looking for the perfect combination of heat and flavour.

Liz is an amazing cook, and,  after much experimentation and blendings of 15 different herbs and spices, she arrived at Dad’s Westcoast Wildfire Awesome Sauce.

Within a half a year, we also launched Dad’s Westcoast Rainforest Awesome Sauce, for those who like a very gentle heat.

For sale at local outdoor markets and retail outlets, our sauces are now available across Vancouver Island and select locations on the BC mainland.

But there was a problem. We had requests from other countries and other parts of Canada.

A case weighs  quite a bit and is consequently expensive to ship by mail.

However, Star, one of the ladies behind the counter at our local Lake Cowichan Canada Post office had noticed that during Christmas, certain of her customers were sending gifts of home-made jam in padded envelopes which was obviously far less expensive then in heavy jars.

Which means we can now offer mail-order services to Canada and beyond.

And we’re about to add two new products to our lineup The Über Hot Armageddon sauce,  and Dad’s Westcoast Embers Awesome Sauce, positioned halfway between our Wildfire and Rainforest versions.

There’s got to be a more efficient way to do this. You _need_ to hook-up with some buyers from the larger chains, or maybe look for an investor. You’ve got a good brand, already got some sales, you just need someone who can get you into the big stores with larger orders, and then shipping costs become very negligible when you’re dealing with pallets and LTL freight carriers. The problem is you need to also get a loan against confirmed big orders in order to pay for the ingredients to fill them, and some capital investment if any new equipment / facilities are needed to bottle in bulk.

It might be worth the trouble to seek out someone who’s experienced in getting through to the big chain stores. There’s people out there that can help you with this.

The cost to ship a bottle from coast-to-coast is next to nothing when you’re sending several thousand at the same time to the same destination (like a wholesale grocer warehouse).

BTW I wish it was more than 250ml. I go through that in one sitting. I need a BIG bottle, here in Ontario, so I can drink it with my food. The sauces in the FreshCo down the street are so-so at best and damn expensive.

My response was more curt than I’d intended. thanks for taking the trouble to leave a comment.

We’ve been to the big stores and succeeded in getting our sauce into a couple of them. The trouble is, they insisted on using their own distributor who wanted to take so much off the top we’d have been left with sod all. Not only that, but they actually charge for shelf space, and want you to pay for advertising. AND -They claim to be supporting local product.

    Right…

    Cheers and all the best

I just noticed that the advertising banner for “Awesome Sauce” seems to have replaced the banner for “Free Fox” and the page for

“Meet Free Fox, p2pnet’s new advertiser” has apparently been deleted.

Did Free Fox pay for only a single day’s worth of advertising on p2pnet, or did something happen yesterday that readers might want to know about?

    :P

  5. Jon Says:

The owners cancelled the ad and asked to have the write-up deleted because
they “want to measure the response to the new software from our existing
clients before we go live with new PR”.

    Cheers!
