Is LimeWire on the way out?

p2pnet.net News:- There could be at least one major casualty resulting directly from yesterday’s Grokster Supreme Court ruling, if the New York Times is correct.

“Mark Gorton, the chief executive of the Lime Group, a brokerage firm that makes LimeWire, a file-sharing alternative to Grokster, said he was likely to stop distributing LimeWire in reaction to the ruling,” says the NYT.

“He said it appeared too difficult to meet the implied standard for inducement.”

“The court, Mr. Gorton said, has ‘handed a tool to judges that they can declare inducement whenever they want to’.”

We haven’t been able to reach LimeWire coo Greg Bildson to confirm or deny the report.

LimeWire, one of the primary founders of the P2P United trade group, recently resigned from the organization.

UPDATE: 10:57 am Pacific – “For now, we have no comment,” Bildson told p2pnet.

I think limeware r nuttin but a bunch of cowards. Michael Weiss from morpheus sez he’s gonna stand up to the **AA!

Maybe they should monitor all the child porn that is available on limewire. There was a photo of a 14 year old girl on it was her address, name and said to go to her house and rape her.

If you do a search for child porn, kiddie porn, or anything close to it you will get over 500 hits.

I had no idea what limewire was and my son downloaded it. Then I found a photo of a girl that his friend and him downloaded. Then I did some research and saw that there is mass child porn on it and removed it from my computer.

Way to go limewire! Make it easier for perverts to share there discusting photos!

  3. Reader's Write Says:

You cannot filter child porn. It’s simply not possible.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

We need an answer on this ASAP. This is very important!

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Jesus man, where have you been living in a cave?
It’s not just p2p it’s the entire internet.
If you don’t want your son exposed to this stuff you’d better take the browser off your computer. And forget about those lame parental filters they don’t and can’t block it all because the porn sites are designed to change and they will continue to get through the filters.
As regards the 14 year old girl stuff, it was most likely put there by the feds or some TV crew to trap pervs.

I would be worried that the FBI will come. They are usually the ones hosting the images so they can get people for downloading it. I would be worried about them knocking on your door.

The supreme court can give it’s bullshit ruling. When there is a will there will be a way. Piracy is here to stay. We have a better chance of winning the war on drugs than eliminating bootleg music. Some clever cats will come up with a new way to do it or find some loophole and then it will be back to the courts…..again. Look at Napster…..

  8. Reader's Write Says:

Exactly! I respect Morpheus, and use Morpheus for the fact that they help FIGHT in court for us users, LimeWire are just greedy, and cowards, good riddens LimeWire.

  9. Reader's Write Says:

seems a bizarre way to catch perverts by putting the stuff there in the first place for everyone to stumble across. Do the FBI normally distribute kiddie porn? Try to do a search for ANY porn on limewire – I’m talking adult porn here – and the titles returned are more often than not alluding to child pornography. Are you seriously saying that in order to catch pervs the FBI are endangering everyone who is searching for adult porn? Sounds like a bizarre way of doing business – it would be akin to the FBI sticking a needle in someone’s arm and then busting them for drug use.

  10. Reader's Write Says:

After I read the statement about Morpheus here i quit using LimeWire and downloaded Morpheus and have been using it eversince. By the way has anyone heard of http://www.P2Pfund.com ????

    FIGHT THE RIAA!!!!

  11. Reader's Write Says:

The kiddie porn that is on Limewire is not from the FBI but they are on there now. We reported it to the police because one of the photos had a girls name and address on there.
Limewire is a FBI dream because when you upload something it gives you the IP address right there. No need to go searching for it. Also, the FBI does not just knock on your door because you downloaded a photo or two!
The FBI knocks on your door if you have downloaded a dozen or so photos and they should! They are now aware and watching the limewire crap and will shut it down.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

Also, we had a virus worm that was also from limewire. It was W32/alcan.worm!p2p and was attached to a music file that my son downloaded. It attached itself to 205 files on my computor and also transfered files and downloaded them that we never seen before. It was caught by our virus protections but not in time before it dd some damage!

  13. Reader's Write Says:

I think the FBI are well aware of the kiddie stuff on LimeWire – they put most of it there. It’s not just LW though, it’s all the P2P.

In the meantime, just don’t download anything with dodgy titles, and nothing with normal titles either. There’s so many misnamed files on P2P that it makes me wonder whether it’s even the FBI. The RIAA have been known to misname files to scare people away from P2P. After all, it’s in their interests!

  14. Reader's Write Says:

just look at the titles on some of those things, it’s impossible to download regular porn without those stupid titles on there. whenever you download anything that’s normal, it always has something cp-ish on the tag

  15. Reader's Write Says:

thats why you check the file sizes…and the virus was not “attached” to the mp3 it was just a virus with the filename set as the song title…but if you had checked the file size then you would have been safe. mp3’s are generally at least 2000+ kb’s in size, the viruses found on limewire are usually 134.4 kb’s…so basically its youre own stupidity and ignorance that got your computer infected.
also, this bullshit about the FBI putting child porn up to “trap” pedofiles is a crock of shit…for one, the FBI doesnt host ANYTHING on the gnutella network (the file network that limewire operates on) and they dont give a shit whats on the network either…they have much more important things to worry about than a few minor viruses and child pornography…things like terrorists, serial killers, meth labs, that sort of thing…to persecute random IP addresses downloading pictures/videos, pornographic or not, would take WAY too much time and effort from such issues such as homeland security, etc etc..

  16. Shane Says:

Wow what a discussion it sucks when you cannot decide wich side of the argument you are on. LimeWire has always been the best operating p2p i have used I did stop using it when I found out a couple of the adult titles I downloaded had kid stuff in the extra bit that you cant read unless you hover the mouse forever over the title. wich is not something I do. I use to put in my search and then just start like ten files like what I was looking for and low and behold atleast 2 of ten are ones you dont want anything to do with, like pthc I did not even know what that meant until limewire….It means preteen hard core I found that out via a yahoo search after a disturbing clip I ran into…. because of this I have stopped using limewire and am trying ares.. If the FBI is doing this I would like to slap around the sick f_ _k that put it on the web for millions of users to spread around. they should be arresting the posters/uploaders. Lets not be to harsh on mothers and fathers who try to protect there children. and agree that it is necessary to do what you can to protect them. go online and look up internet spying programs they will tell you every keystroke and then you know if he was looking or if it just found him. viruses are going to happen anytime we use the net that is just life I am glad that antivirus programs are there to help for those of you who dont have anti programs look up avg online it is free and one of the best there is and Comodo firewall rocks to it will help catch those auto dialer programs.

  17. Reader's Write Says:

i’ve downloaded a skidrow song and found what might be a kiddy porn video…..i shreeded it and now i’m really concerned what my teen kids are seeing when there tring to download music…….

  18. dirtymoe Says:

If they outlaw P2P they will have to shut down every pawn shop in America. I mean thats all they do is sell used albums, CD’s etc. Al least on P2P theres no $$$ exchanging hands

  19. theranger Says:

I was wondering whether it wouldnt simply be possible very easily to track down poeple who have child-porn on thier computer by clicking on “chat with host” when downloading files…..

  20. Redmond Says:

One thing that this whole post fails to clarify, is where can you go to turn in people that have this stuff on Limewire? I have found one place in the past, that never responded to me, called http://www.wsacp.org. Im not sure if this includes p2p, however….it may get some attention if more than a few people post about Limewire. If anyone knows any websites to report use/distribution or this kiddy crap, please post it. I have a 6 mo. old daughter and it crushes me just knowing how sick people are out there. Knowing we cant control the internet or wipe out child porn sucks, but everyone knows progress has to start somewhere!
