Google Earth in 3D
p2pnet.net News:- Google has launched Google Earth, a free satellite-based mapping service that lets Net users see images of buildings and landscapes in 3D.
It this a public service? Nope. It’s part of the company’s, “bid to seize a larger share of the market for local advertising,” says the LA Times, going on:.
“Google is using tools such as Google Earth and Google Maps to increase sales of search-based advertising to local businesses, a market that could be worth $3.4 billion in the U.S. by 2009, market researcher Kelsey Group Inc. has forecast.”
Microsoft recently announced Local Search as “the first step” in delivering services which include, “a broad local search vision, which encompasses geo-local search, mapping technologies, mobile search”.

i got that in a newsletter today. i looked at it but i’m unimpressed. and it probably has spyware and adware in the free version.
no thanks google. you’re now too big for your britches.

Thats a very uneducated response. Has Google ever put spyware or adware in their products, did you even read their web page. If you don’t like the service, don’t use it, but some people might actually find it interesting.
No, there is no adware.

google tool bar – spyware/adware
gmail – spy-ads according to words in email messages. totally spy-infested.
google shares $300? they get their money from spyware, adware and spy-ads.
no thanks.
and yes, i looked at the info on the google earth page. it’s crap.

Give me a break! Google may be big, and it is absolutely there to make money, but they are not Evil. It would be contrary to it’s basic founding principles.

Google toolbar does have an *optional* feature which could be considered spyware. I use it with that option disabled. And I’ve never seen an ad from it.
True Gmail does has context sensitive adds. Which is considered by some to be spyware. (not me). I don’t mind if computer programs read my mail to scan for viruses or display context sensitive adds. To me it’s the same thing.
As far as the info on the page being crap. The program google earth is an EXE not a web app. I can understand not wanting to install a beta app from a company you don’t trust but calling it crap without even trying it seems to show a prejudice on your part.

Google is too big for its britches you must admit that.
The only good thing that could come from Google now is that they get in to a serious corporate war with M$ and they both loose the billions they have fleeced from consumers that use crapware like google toolbar.
You may be happy with google’s adware, spyware, and crapware but I’m not.

Give me a break “founding principles”. lol.

WoW, but your not bitter though, you must be too cool and smart to use Google.

Who gives a shit who makes the program, It’s still a pretty cool deal, personally, I like to see what my neighbourhood looks like from above. I’ve used Nasa World Wind for a while now, but it doesn’t get close enough. All in all, this thing’s pretty neat-o.

June 30th, 2005 at 9:40 pm
How’d you guess?
June 30th, 2005 at 9:43 pm
You’re an idiot. Try actually reading what I said.
I want a war between google and M$ because it’ll waste them “both” companys money. Does Gates want a war. No. He wants to stop google without spending $.
Duh!
