War of the Worlds Net protest

p2pnet.net News:- Actor Tom Cruise’s hero is dead sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

Cruise is starring in Stephen Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, which was to have been staged at the Budokan, Japan. But it was cancelled because the “gala event” was too difficult to protect from piracy, said UIP, the distributor.

Now the remake of H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic is in another war, this time launched by 3,139 (at the time of writing) angry anti-Cruise, anti-Scientology protesters who are using an online petition to make their feelings known.

Dear Mr. Spielberg, they write >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We, the undersigned, wish to inform you that we are compelled to boycott your movie “War of the Worlds”. Our decision is based solely on the abhorrent behavior of Mr. Tom Cruise. We will not be spending our good money to support the ridiculous and potentially dangerous antics of this raving narcissist. Mr. Cruise’s actions and comments have been offensive and insulting when not downright laughable.

-We do not want to hear Mr. Cruise’s uneducated and unsubstantiated opinions on medicine and Psychiatry. His mean-spirited decision to use Brooke Shields as an example was unforgivable. The potential impact on those in need of treatment, who might heed the advice of a ‘celebrity’ over a trained professional, is dangerous. If Mr. Cruise believes that vitamins can cure mental illness, then perhaps he should consider increasing his dosage.

-We do not want to be enlightened about Mr. Cruise’s ‘religion’ of Scientology. If he is so concerned about mind control, he should not be part of an organization that seems to use this tactic as its Modus Operandi. Mr. Spielberg, was the fully staffed Scientology tent you allowed Mr. Cruise to have on the movie set placed right next to the Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, and Muslim tents? Didn’t think so.

-We are sick of being force-fed his relationship with Katie Holmes which, if it isn’t the publicity hoax it appears to be, is a pathetic, juvenile, attention mongering display. Tom’s obvious control of his Stepford-Wife-To-Be is frightening.

-We do not want to watch his ‘out of control’ yet suspiciously manipulative antics nor listen to his condescending, holier-than-thou judgments. This man cannot even articulate a coherent sentence. He should stick to reading movie scripts.

It is revealing that the most compelling character Tom Cruise has ever portrayed is “Frank TJ Mackay” from Magnolia, a control-freak with a pathological need to assert his obsession over not just those around him, but the public as well, by exploiting his access to public media. Apparently Mr. Cruise was playing himself.

Perhaps he views the aliens he battles in War of the worlds as a metaphor for the aliens he and his Scientology friends believe inhabit we humans. Relax Tom, it’s just a movie. A movie we will not be paying to see.

Sincerely ………

One Response to “War of the Worlds Net protest”

but many will download it – natch!

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Couldn’t of said it better my self!

The premier of Stephen Spielberg’s production of H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” was canceled because the “gala event” was too difficult to protect from piracy?

That is the most pathetic, greedy, small minded thing I have ever heard, second only to the rants of the anti-Scientology anti Tom Cruise bigots, second only because their rant was at least not greed based, no matter how ignorant. “We do not want to be enlightened…” pretty much sums it up. I’m not a big fan of Cruise or Scientology, but both the greed of UIP and the intolerance of the “protesters” are just inexcusable.

I’m going to boycott the movie simply because UIP is being such a bunch of a-holes about it. It’s just another Hollywood remake anyway. Scientology? Hey, whatever floats yer boat (keeping in mind that my right to swing my fist ends before it hits your nose).

Great letter. If my son took vitamins instead of what his doctor prescribed he’d be in an institution right now. I used to like Tom Cruise. but lately he’s coming across as a real jerk. I’ve lost all respect for him. sorry Tom. However there are enough fans who worship him like a God therefore he can do no wrong and will always be popular. that’s the big problem with the star system in hollywood.

  5. Reader's Write Says:

yeah, just download it. should be online soon.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Excellent, top quality rant there! You obviously feel strongly about this. And I couldn’t agree more.

I wish I had the acumen of old ‘l ron’. Dreaming up a whole religion based around the wealthiest and most influential people you can find giving you all their money… gradually. A master stroke. (note sarcasm)

I liked that tom cruise movie where it turned out he was dead the whole time. just a pity he kept walking around and stuff ;)

  7. Reader's Write Says:

    “Just download it”

I think you should all boycott it – and if “Just downloading it” qualifies as a boycott, then you’re essentially supporting alot of the MPAA claims of the damage file sharing is doing.

  8. Reader's Write Says:

    I don’t get it.

  9. Reader's Write Says:

all i have to say is this movie better not suck, il lose my mind if hollywood ruines another classic

especialy with a asshat like tom cruise

I just can’t get enthused over another remake of a movie already made. I mean you know how the movie goes, how it begins, how it ends. Isn’t like it is something you are going to try and figure out. No matter how many splashy effects are added it still boils down to “you already know it”.

It is readily apparent that the well is dry in the originality scene. I don’t know about you but I won’t be spending any money to see this. Really don’t care if Tom Cruise is in it or not. Of course if many of you feel the same way I do and don’t go to see this blah movie then you can get ready for Hollydud to cry yet again that pirates are the reason it isn’t doing well. To be honest with you the p2p d/l may be the only “value” its worth.

As far as I am concerned they should just lock the movie up, no one will steal it and it will be safe. They can keep their movie, I will keep my money and we should all be happy eh? Bet it don’t work out that way when it isn’t a smashing box office hit.

    *****

i think the last remake of this was “ID4″, right? and instead of a biological virus, it was a computer virus that destroyed them.

but i don’t think there will be a slowdown of remakes any time soon. it’s all they have left in lieu of original ideas. that, and making mediocre comic book stories into terrible movies.

they do remakes to attract a newer, younger, “hipper* audience who hasn’t seen the original. 2 things wrong with that: they have already seen the original on tv many times; it isn’t the younger audience who buys the bulk of movie tickets – it’s the older ones who can afford it.

and face it. a spielberg/cruise movie that cost over $100M to produce isn’t gonna be shelved.

but at least they seem to have stopped – for the moment – stealing and americanising french films.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

hate to break it to you but if you dont want to see a horrible movie, dont go…

    :(

where have you been? Part of the reason for all the crap coming out is it is aimed at 14 yr olds or younger … advertisings main goal is to get ‘em trained to buy our bullshit young…. course I may have paraphrased that a bit.

  15. Reader's Write Says:

How do you know it’s horrible untill you see it? catch 22

  16. Reader's Write Says:

i think it was travolta who turned cruise on to scientology – he’s always doing that to people. he must hypnotise them or have them make a deal with the illuminati.

No, sad to say you got it on-spot & *exactly* :(

  18. Reader's Write Says:

TOM IS SO GAY. WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING BUT PLEASE STOP THE ACTING.
