When ‘Spin’ means ‘distort’
p2pnet.net News View:- Bill Evans founded Boycott-RIAA but had to sell it when he started running out of cash to keep it going. He left when he had a major philosophical disagreement with the site’s new owner.
But that doesn’t mean he`s lost interest in what’s happening as the Big Music cartels continue to try to bend us to their will, doing their best to distort reality so it accords with their way of looking at things.

I’ve never seen a release on any CD “authorizing” me play it. So according to the current way of thinking, the mere act of playing a CD seems to constitute an “unauthorized act”.
The RIAA and MPAA have bastardized the language so much through their continued spin doctoring that even members of the press (people supposedly trained to write and who should therefor also have an inkling of correct useage) have become confused.
The labels and studios use `unathorized` to represent ‘illegal’, something that’s serving to further muddy the already murky waters.
But when you stop to think about it, should anyone who’s purchased anything have to get authorization to do something with it?
Did you get authorization to eat that Quarter Pounder for lunch?
Does ‘Enjoy your meal’ imply authorization? ( That should keep the lawyers busy for a few weeks.)
And ripping a CD to mp3’s describes the act of doing, not stealing.
The analogy is the same as “That’s bad”. Phat, Fat, etc. Depends on which generation you’re speaking to.
The RIAA probably went after ‘Rip, Mix, Burn’ knowing full well the dinosaurs in Congress would take Rip, Mix, Burn to mean Steal, Mix, Burn.
It`s time everyone, especially the media, learns to see though the spin. But that’s becoming become harder and harder to do in this age of `journalism by press release`.
