Scammer poses as GEMA rep
p2pnet.net News:- A scammer claiming to be a representative of GEMA, the German royalty collection agency, has been selling fake music licenses in the Cologne area, it says.
Calling himself an official of GEMA, he has been seeking out restaurateurs and dealers with a view to selling them supposed licences for the use of music, says the organization.
“One customer, who was caught out, said that `the alleged GEMA man only did a quick calculation before demanding 190 [DEM?] in cash.` The `receipt slip` was issued on forged GEMA paper. It was not until the official GEMA customer adviser paid his visit that the fraud was revealed.
Invoices are always sent by GEMA’s internal department, “and under no circumstances are royalties collected in cash,” says the agency.
