Canada signs cyberhate accord

p2pnet.net News:- Canada is the first non-European country to sign up to combat “cyberhate,” the online dissemination of xenophobic propaganda, says the Associated Press, going on:

Canada signed an additional protocol to the international cybercrime convention, drafted in 2001 by the Council of Europe.”

The convention also names confidentiality offences, fraud and forgery, content violations, such as child pornography and racism, and copyright offences.

The treaty aims to speed up international co-operation in investigations and extraditions, says the story, going on:

The additional protocol widens the scope of the convention to combat xenophobic propaganda and calls on countries to criminalize its distribution via computer, as well as Internet sites that deny or approve of genocide and crimes against humanity.”

It’s interesting that corporate lobbyists succeeded in having ‘copyright’ separately included in a convention of this importance. It might almost have been covered by ‘fraud and forgery’.

So I guess MSNBC.com, FoxNews, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN are all in some deep trouble right?

It’s all about making more rules, more control, for the INDIVIDUALS, not for the establishment. MORE CONTROL, every day.
