Microsoft denies Claria claim

p2pnet.net News:- Bill and the Boyz claim their decision to downgrade ex-spyware application Claria (aka Gator) from “quarantine” to “ignore” has absolutely nothing to do with the possibity that they may buy the company.

“The downgrade in threat level merely represented an effort to be “fair and consistent with how Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) handles similar software from other vendors,” according to a statement quoted by ZDNet Australia.

“All software is reviewed under the same objective criteria, detection policies, and analysis process,” the story has Microsoft saying.

"Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) continues to notify our users when Claria software is found on a computer, and it offers our users the option to remove the software if they desire.”

Coincidentally, of course, Claria recently said it’s firing StreamCast Network’s Kazaa.

You forgot to quote the best part of ZDNet’s story:

“We firmly believe that people should have complete control over what runs on their computers,” Microsoft added.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Gator is some of the worse of the worse of spyware. Microsucks is doing what it always does. Buy the company for the product, incorporate it into the OS, and then you have some new thing. Only this is another new thing I don’t want.

Instead I will stick with my linux. Bill and the Boyz lost me over just such antics. They could have long ago made the OS secure if it weren’t for the fact that they were so greedy. As it is now, every cracker and their bother seems able to borrow the code to access your machine. Simply, microsucks is too greedy for its own good.

MS can deny all they want… but the fact is, they want money, and if an adware/spyware company is willing to give them some money, in exchange for not being detected by the ms software… then MS is definantly going to do it!
