HP re-invents printing
p2pnet.net News:- Has Hewlett-Packard come up with a new way to print? It says it has.
The secret is in the manufacture of the print head itself, says PC Pro.
“Unlike existing technologies where the parts that make up the print head are welded together after manufacture, all the components that make up the new print head are created together in one unit via a photolithographic process. This not only makes for cheaper production processes, but by building the parts together in a single process, there is a precise alignment of the chamber, nozzles and heating element, which then improves the accuracy of ink drop placement.
“HP says the manufacturing accuracy inherent in the new design means that the company can increase density of nozzles. HP says that it is possible to build up to 3,900 nozzles or more on a single print head. More nozzles and more precise dot placement accuracy mean faster, higher quality prints.”
It’ll also pump out a 4”X6” ‘photo’ in 14 seconds, compared to 30 seconds or more for its now ‘older’ printers, says USA Today, going on:
“HP hopes the new printers, which start at $199, will help the company continue to be profitable during a tough period of transition.”

As long as HP and other ink-jet printer manufacturers continue to charge exorbitant prices for ink, what difference does it make if their printers can churn out 100 photos per minute?
I really wish some enterprising young lawyer would press a class action suit against price-fixing and price gouging for printer ink!! Either that, or as an alternative, I wish the DoJ would file action against them for criminal intent in the same areas.
