Aussie Swiftel defence move
p2pnet.net News:- Australia`s Internet Industry Association (IIA), with the likes of Yahoo, Optus, Telstra and ninemsn on its board, wants members to contribute to the defence of ISP Swiftel against litigation by the music industry over alleged copyright infringements.
An email to that effect, also revealed that `a number of substantial members` of the association were assessing the impact of the litigation on their operations, says ZDNet Australia.
The Big Music record label cartel is accusing Swiftel of copyright infringement and IIA ceo Peter Coroneos says members “with potential liabilities” should “consider their position should Swiftel lose this case,” says the email.
However, in a subsequent interview with ZDNet Australia, Coroneos said the contributions alluded to in the e-mail would not be financial, but `expressions of support`, says ZDNet, going on:
Pressed for examples, he cited access to information, technical advice and other resources that may help their case.
Coroneos said the IIA would not, though, be supporting the litigation directly nor taking a strategic role … but we may be providing the court with an amicus brief to assist the court’s understanding of the issues at stake”.

what a drisgrace. One big fat industry monoply going to fight another. This really reveals what all the hype is about! Its just about who controls music…who as in which bunch of corporates. The best thing we can all do is start paying for downloads so that niether of the bfcs (big fat corporates) get their hands on our music
