PSP ‘No Update’ UMD Starter

p2pnet.net News:- Placasoft has released a PSP ‘No Update’ UMD Starter launch utility.

Essentially, it locates the BOOT.BIN file on the UMD disc in the drive, and then loads it without checking the PSP firmware revision, says PSPNFO.com.

"Since there aren’t many PSP titles (both Space Invaders Pocket JAP & Coded Arms JAP come to mind) that require you to update your firmware in order to play them yet, the only thing we could verify at the time of this post was that it does indeed launch the UMD in the drive."

Included are versions for both v1.00 and v1.50 firmware PSP units.

"The main motivation behind this from Sony is that PSP firmware versions 1.00 and 1.50 have both been cracked and you can now boot unauthorised (homebrew) programs on them, and apparently a loader for PSP games stored on the memory sticks is on the way," says Del.

"So it’s a clever move by Sony.

"But if this new software does what it’s supposed to do the, mechanisms in the game to check the firmware versions will be ignored or fooled somehow - which means the games will boot on old firmware.

"Yet another step towards that inevitable mass piracy coming to a PSP near you."

This whole attempt to “stop piracy” has got to be just a massive tax dodge. I mean come on, who the hell would actually waste money trying to stop it? It’s been going on for almost as long as the industry itself, anyone who thinks they can stop it is just insane.
