Ebbers gets 25 years

p2pnet.net News:- Finally, a corporate criminal has received a sentence to fit the crime.

Ex-WorldCom ceo Bernard Ebbers will spend 25 years behind bars for his role in America`s largest accounting fraud, says the Boston Globe, which goes on:

The once-brash mogul, 63, wept and sniffled as US District Judge Barbara Jones imposed the sentence in a packed courtroom. Ebbers, a former basketball coach who built a telecommunications empire from scratch, must serve 85 percent of the prison term – making him eligible for release in about two decades.

It may be 25 years, but it won`t be hard time.

The judge recommended he be sent to a low-security facility in Yazoo City, Miss., so relatives and friends who live nearby could visit, says the story.

Ebbers earned the, “stiffest punishment so far in the wave of corporate fraud scandals for his $11 billion book-cooking scheme in the company that later reemerged as MCI,” says the New York Daily News, adding:

“Hoodwinked investors and ex-WorldCom workers who lost everything when Ebbers’ house of cards collapsed in 2002 cheered the tough sentence.”

Guess even a country club can get old if you can’t ever leave. How come this guy can steal BILLIONS and get to ride his days out in relative comfort but the guy who sells a bag of weed to his buddy gets cast down with the sodomites in some hell hole of a prison? Being ultra-rich has it’s privelige even in jail. I wanna see this guy rot in a supermax married to a 275lb meth head named Bubba for the rest of his life.

I totally agree. But then I remember greed and capitalism combined has some wierd effects on justice.

    Good point.

I never understood how so many people in a country can profess to be Christian, but still allow more crimes to be committed INSIDE prison.

I mean, WTF? You do know that most of those creeps are getting OUT again. Do you want them to have been training to become WORSE? Or maybe they should be properly compartmentalized, isolated, and continually fed a stream of guilt and forced therapy and medication, if needed. All this should be continued after.

The hypocrisy sickens me. What would Jesus do?
