EU raids Intel’s Europe offices

p2pnet.net News:- The European Union has raided Intel offices across Europe.

With EC competition directorate investigators were officials from national competition authorities who are conducting inspections of several premises of Intel Corporation in Europe, “as well as a number of IT firms manufacturing or selling computers,” says PC Pro.

The raids, which took place on Tuesday, "are said to be connected to the recent allegations of business malpractice and monopoly activity alleged by rival AMD,” it says.

"The raids send a strong signal that the European Commission is far along in a five-year investigation into Intel’s business practices," says BusinessWeek.

"A preliminary inquiry launched in 2000 at the behest of AMD fizzled after several years for lack of evidence, but it was never officially closed. AMD filed another complaint in 2004 and provided additional evidence of what it claims is a "relentless, worldwide campaign" to harm its business."

The new complaints "breathed life into an investigation on the verge of being closed," says the story. "Now it appears more likely than ever that the EC will bring charges against Intel."

AMD is suing Intel for, among other things, allegedly coercing A-brand vendors, local assemblers, distributors and retailers worldwide into Intel-exclusive deals.

I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I can’t wait to see their company dissolved.

These ****’s have been screwing joe consumer and jane developer for ages, and on top of that they produce kludgy, trashy, inefficient chips.

I hope theyre broken up and sold for scrap.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Consumers deserve a good honest price war between AMD and chipzilla.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

What we deserve is quantum computing, not another fucking enhancement of a 4 bit/30 year processor

  4. Reader's Write Says:

It doesn’t matter if it has a 512-bit data bus if it’s a piece of crap.

What about serializing all of the system buses like they’re doing with SATA, PCI express, et al?

Is innovation dead yet, or do I need to throw some more IBM PC/XT boxes at it?
