Big Music win in Ireland
p2pnet.net News:- Recently, Swedish ISPs won a victory over the local music industry, and were able to protect their customers private information. However Irish ISPs did not fair so well in their battle against the IRMA (Irish Recorded Music Association).
The High Court in Dublin has ruled that the identity of 17 suspected music swappers must be handed over. The IRMA has stated that they will contact the individuals and offer them settlement deals, the details of which haven’t yet been made public.
The Director General of the IRMA had this to say about the High Courts ruling:
“We will now be writing to the 17 individuals informing them of the seriousness of their actions. We will offer them the opportunity of settling the action. If they refuse our settlement terms, we will be forced to pursue the matter through the Courts. This is a last resort for the music industry. We hope that this decision will jolt others, particularly parents of teenagers, to realize that unauthorized file sharing is illegal and has consequences”.
This crackdown follows the much larger one seen in the states on music sharing. The UK, and Japan have also seen suits filed against file swappers in recent months.

This world needs more “interesting” things to happen. Slowly, but surely, one by one the RIAA / MPAA are closing the vise on the people. While I don’t agree with people who share files so “freely”, I don’t support the degree of demonization of the whole file-sharing deal.
Goodness sakes! Sharing files is not a serious crime — You shoplift, an you get a slap on the hand or maybe a night in the slammers and a small fee.
But if you share music/movies, you pay THOUSANDS of dollars — And now, we got these CRACKHEADS in congress who want to push the DEATH PENALTY, yeah you heard me. They are PUBLICLY pushing for the death penalty — WTF?!!!
I say screw the RIAA / MPAA and their “affliates” and support non-mpaa/riaa companies and local industry. Better yet, make your own movies and music.
Don’t fight the media, be the media!!!

It’s far less hazardous to go down town and nick CDs from a record store for that matter. The record/film industry has gone bonkers and lost me as a customer at the same time. Luckily I’m sufficiently ancient to all ready have all I want, but I hope my younger relatives are aware of this ridiculous situation.
