War Back-Packing
p2pnet.net Feature:- We’ve already mentioned a one-horse-powered solar-panel laptop.
So how about War Back-Packing?
“Plug a cellular-network card into the book-size open-source-based device, and voilà – instant Wi-Fi hotspot, with speeds averaging around 700 kilobits per second,” says Mike Outmesguine in the July Popular Science,
At $700 for a Junxion Box wireless gateway and $230 for a Voltaic Systems solar-charging backpack, it ain’t cheap. But remember when a 286 cost an arm and a leg? Anyway, we’re also sure some creative thinking can reduce these costs.
With the above components, and a $100 EV-DO PCMCIA card, you’ll also need a 12-volt battery with spade terminals, 1.2 or higher amp-hour $15; male DC power plug, size M $5; 18-gauge wire, black and red $5; female insulated quick-disconnect connectors, crimp-type, sized for battery spade terminals $3; in-line fuse holder $7; and, 20-amp fuse, 50 cents.

If this thing has a long range independent of cellular networks, then it may be used as a part of freewan.
