Bell tolls for IBM OS/2
p2pnet.net News:- OS/2 is to be laid to rest.
The IBM / Microsoft operating system Big Blue had such high hopes for won’t be sold after the end of December and support will stop in December, 2006, although it’ll continue to be available to “those who want it under contract, says PC Pro.
“Attempts by enthusiasts at OS/2 world to organise a petition asking that IBM open source OS/2 have fallen on deaf ears. IBM says that there are ’significant legal and technical’ issues that would have to be resolved as the OS was developed with a number of ‘third parties’ who participated in OS/2’s development.”
In other words, “Microsoft is unlikely to want to allow another open source competitor to Windows rising from the grave.”
