New! Advertising on Tivo

p2pnet.net News:- Tivo is a wonderful invention, Its raison d’etre is to allow people to watch TV without being bombarded by advertisements.

But, “General Motors Corp. is using new interactive technology to make sure TiVo users won’t miss its ads while fast-forwarding through commercial breaks and to let them request a brochure or follow-up call with the push of a button,” says the Detroit News.

GM and the WB Television Network are the first companies to sign up for the service, “which TiVo Inc. launched Monday to about a third of its more than 3 million subscribers”.

Apparently, “The new technology plasters a logo on the screen whenever that company’s commercial appears.”

“As the use of these types of technologies continues to grow," the story has GM spokeswoman Ryndee Carney saying, "advertisers who can provide useful, relevant information to consumers in an appealing format will have a competitive edge."

just get a regular dvr that isn’t Tivo. all major brands – and several no-name ones – make them. plus, most cable companies in usa can provide you with a dvr.

tivo is ridiculous. just don’t get it. it’s that simple.

Since skipping commericials is illegal in Japan. Kinda makes you wonder what the pee-pee dance sounds like in Japanese.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

    pee-pee dance?

  4. Reader's Write Says:

There are a lot better, free alternetatives to Tivo… its not even funny… Most have NO subscription fee, and work better than Tivo as well as give you better controll, cause they work on your computer! =P

So, name a few and share a few links!

You never saw the pee-pee dance? Ever watch a 3 year old trying to not pee in their pants, holding their crotch, kind of crossing their legs and then switch, their weight from one leg to the other? Or people in line at a restroom moving from one foot to the other? Basically a pee pee dance is the movements you make when you can’t pee right now, even though you really really need too.

    Advertising is so evil.

If you look at how the system works, the icon will pop-up as you still fastforward the ads. The users has the option of selecting it, or ignoring it.

It may surprise people – but people like ads, in certain contexts. Especially if its targetted. Look at this site – half the time theres as much text in the ads as the body copy of a story.

Evil, though. Evil. It’s okay for this site to do it, its a lil’ Mom & Pop operation. God forbid a national or multi-national organisation do it. Evil.

just go to any electronics shop or brandname website and you’ll see many dvr’s and dvd recorders with HDD machines that are not tivo: LG, panasonic, philips, sony, etc. do the research yourself. i’m not your private search engine.

  9. Reader's Write Says:

    plus, bittorrent is free.

also, check with your cable company to see if they rent out dvr’s.
