New way file swapping
p2pnet.net News:- Here`s p2p file swapping with a difference.
And maybe it should be called p2pd (person-to-person, direct).
Trade DVDs, don`t rent them, says Peerflix. The cost? One dollar per.
Once you sign up, we will rush you at least 4 mailers that you use to send your DVDs on to your peers, says the site.
All members are protected by the Peerflix PeerSafe protection program. This means you can trade DVDs that you own, worry free. We will credit you for any DVD that is lost, stolen or damaged, subject to the Terms Of Use.
Consumers pay the postage, but Peerflix, has designed the envelopes used by its members in such a way that the envelope with one disc only weighs 0.9 ounces, says CNET News. As a result, it only costs 37 cents to send a disc.
The company’s gross margin, or profit left after the costs of sales, on each trade is about 60 cents. Its expenses largely revolve around running the peer-to-peer site, advertising and providing customer support.

that’s crazy, i’d never do that because i doubt i’d ever get my dvd returned to me.
what a stupid, expensive, time-consuming/-wasting idea.

“i doubt i’d ever get my dvd returned to me.”
That is why the company promises that that won’t happen. I am sure they will set it up so that the person who damages or loses it will be fined and forced to pay it back.
Unique idea, but won’t work on such a large scale. That is something you need to do with a community.

Yeah but I’m sure the MPAA will try to find some way to put a lid on this.

No, the author meant trade with your friends or those you know and trust.
OR, even better —-> Go to a pawn shop or you local Cash Exchange (if you live in Canada) and buy old but good movies for a few bucks. It helps the local economy and gives the previously watched movies a new life. You’ll be surprised at how MANY copies of DVDs and VHS there are of POPULAR movies that people rush to buy (but later found out it’s only worth watching once)!

Yes, by all means.. go buy some cheap dvd’s that you want to watch, or buy them at wal-mart… the point of peerflix is that it doesn’t matter. People buy so many dvd’s that after watching unless they are a classic movie for it’s for a 4 year old, they almost never watch them again. THAT’s where peerflix comes in. For a buck, you can trade it for another movie you want to see, and you can choose to keep that one forever or put it back in peerflix to get another movie..
To answer your question about getting it back, the idea is that you don’t want it back… although you can get ‘it’ back, but why would you want to.
by ‘it’ I mean that you can get the same movie… or you can even purposely put in a pan’n’scan, and take out a letterbox… sweet.

I’ve been a member for 8 months now, and have no need for netflix. I still buy the odd movie on impulse if I want to watch it NOW, because I know that if it’s not a keeper, I MUST keep to show my grandchildren (when I have them) I can send it out on Peerflix, for effectively the Full retail value (except in peerbux) which credit I use to get my standard 3 movies a week through peerflix. Also, once in a while if I like a movie and want to hang on to it for a while (or forever) it doesn’t slow down my movie flow one bit (unlike netflix and its ilk)
I tell everyone I know about peerflix, because you see, it’s in my interest. The more people on peerflix, the larger MY virtual library of DVD’s
Rock on Peerflix!

just go to the library and rent them for free.
or, as i understand it, to rent from blockbusters or others it only costs a couiple of bucks anyway. and you don’t ahve to wait for the post or send out packages.
i still think it’s a stupid idea. you never know the condition of a film you’ll get. it could be all scratched up or defective.
and i would never, ever send out my dvd’s unlöess i was promised that i would get it back. i don’t give them away. if someone wants to borry a film, they can come to my house and pick it up and leave a fair deposit.

i mean, if someone i don’t know wants to borrow my film, they can come to me and leave a deposit. someone i know and trust doesn’0t have to leave a deposit. i’ve been burned by “friends of friends” who take too long to return a film to me.

If you go to the site, it explains that you never have to worry about a damaged disc, because all trades are insured by (I can’t remember the name of it) ’something’Safe protection program. It says that you are covered even if the other people don’t send the dvd to you or it gets lost in the mail. so you have nothing to lose. it also says that they track what people do to prevent fraud so they minimize the loss.
In case you are wondering, I do use ppeerflix, and so far at least it’s been a pretty neat experience. I’v never gotten a disc that doesn’t play, and it has worked out much cheaper than netflix would be, and I still never have to leave the house to deal with my movie habit.
