Peer Impact and Peer Cash

p2pnet.net News:- Remember back when the Big Four (then Big Five) record label cartel first realised it had well and truly blown it with p2p? It desperately tried to re-group by backing and supplying the music download ’services’ which, with cartel encouragement, were popping up like mushrooms.

Well, it’s deja vu all over again, only this time we?re watching new ‘legal’ p2p services going online, none of which have anything to do with sharing and all of which have only one goal – to part you from your hard-earned cash in any way they can, ASAP.

The big questions now are: which of them will become the dominant corporate ‘p2p’ service; and, what will they have to do to get there?

Peer Impact was one of the first to bill itself as a ‘legal p2p network’ without explaining where or what the ‘illegal’ ones were.

In fact, Peer Impact is a hard-core sales site dedicated to peddling the same limited selection of Big Four record label cartel downloads that are available at the same exorbitant prices elsewhere.

The difference between it and other ‘legal’ p2p sites is, it wants users to work for something it calls Peer Cash. And it also wants to plant a software application in their computers.

‘Unique technology’
Peer Impact, owned by Wurld Media, will now also offer mp3s from “leading independent music labels in addition to DRM protected content,? it says.

Not surprisingly, it’s also come up with what is believes is a cool and groovy new phrase – ‘codec agnostic’. This means it’ll also be selling indie music which, unlike the corporate downloads, isn’t polluted with DRM.

Peer Impact says it features a ‘unique technology’ through which users earn payments for acting as “redistributors” of content bought from Peer Impact.

‘Users simply leave their computers on, and if they are selected as a source of fulfillment for purchases over the network, they receive credit towards future purchases though Peer Impact,’ says a Daily Gazette story quoted by Wurld Media.

[That rather resembles the Weed resale concept combined with a failed Brilliant Digital Entertainment / Joltid idea to get into punters? systems and cash in on the results - Ed]

Users buy tracks for a dollar, or albums for $10,’by downloading them from other people who have already stored the music on their computers,’ says the story and, ‘Whenever someone downloads a song stored on those computers, users will also receive up to 10 percent of the sale that could go toward more digital purchases.’

But the “up to” 10% isn’t in real money. It’s that Peer Cash ‘members’ get through Passive Distribution and Active Distribution.

‘NoiseMakers’
Passive Distribution means you, “leave your computer on and Peer Impact running so that the files you have purchased on Peer Impact remain available to the network. In this scenario, if you happen to have a file that another member wants to purchase, Peer Impact may choose you as a source based on a series of criterion.”

And Active Distribution? It’s, “just what it sounds like; members spreading the word about artists, content, playlists, etc. and exposing other members to their favorite content. We call these active distributors ‘NoiseMakers.’

“Peer Impact gives these entrepreneurs all of the tools they need to present their favorite content to other members of the network. These tools can even be used to attract new members to Peer Impact. Chat boards, personalized e-mails, fan sites, online collateral, etc. are all at a member’s disposal. The benefit of being a ‘NoiseMaker’ is that you can earn up to 10% of the total purchase price by actively building awareness and helping drive sales.

And, ‘could go toward’? Even if it did go toward, there’d still be 90 cents left to pay.

In real money.

Stay tuned.

OK if your going to report on something at least get your facts straight

Each upload with Peer Impact can get you up to 5% of the sale so you can earn more of a discount then you state ..If there are 2 sources uploading you get 2.5% per upload of the sale if there are 5 sources you get 1% per upload .Seed server sources are not counted as a source for Peercash purposes .So you can save more than the 9c on the 99c you quote .You could in fact earn the price of the song back in 20 uploads in theory .

Noisemakers are like a affiliate link which you have many of on your website. If someone purchases content from Peer Impact by clicking a Noisemaker link you receive 5% of the sale and if you meet the passive distribution criteria and have that content in your shared you have a good chance of being chosen as a source this is how you can earn up to 10% .

Peercash is a discount on digital music not a get rich quick scheme and Wurld media are upfront about it, if you dont like it dont use it but dont report FUD.

This may sound like fun play on words, but in reality there’s more to it than that. The term “New World Order (NWO)” and “One World Government” actually refer to the same “organization.” Look into it. You’ll find it very intriging and scary!

    Happy researching, cheers!

I don’t think this will work in a million years. Ah well, I hope they burn through the cash quickly and let us get on with Bitlord. I’m certainly not agnostic when it comes to my favourite torrent app.

Let me get this right, I pay for my internet connection, electricity, and for the music. I leave the computer on and hooked up and load my drives with music. IF I am lucky enough that someone uses my bandwidth to get the song, I get what? This isn’t even real money. I doubt that my utilities would accept this (what was it again?) Peer Cash, as payment for their services. No matter what I do in this process it is always going to cost, no matter how many songs people chose to d/l from me. The theoritical is rarely going to be met. This is closer to pymarid selling than an oppurtunity with just another scheme to slice away from you the user money and in this case your bandwidth also. Must be nice to get such ardent supporters to defend it as well.

read this and then you will understand what Peer Impact is about

That’s so tragic, it’s almost funny!

“…not yuppies like myself who can afford to buy music and for whom the convenience of doing so is worth the price.”

That neatly encapsulates the mindset of the individual responsible for the preceding lengthy sales pitch – or, should I say, that of the “marketing geniuses” behind the Peer Impact concept.
