Gang pushed drugs online
p2pnet.net News:- Google’s international social networking site Orkut has been used to push drugs, mainly ecstasy and marijuana, online.
Brazilian police arrested 10 people yesterday, says Reuters, quoting a Drugs Enforcement Service officer in Niteroi, near Rio de Janeiro, as saying, "We discovered the drug ring first via authorised phone tapping, and later the investigation included monitoring of their activities on the internet.”
Orkut is “hugely popular” in Brazil and users “discuss everything from doughnuts to quantum physics and schedule events such as community meetings,” says Reuters, adding:
“Narcotics are also discussed, with some groups advocating their legalisation. However, most popular Portuguese-language communities touching on the issue are anti-drug groups.”

To think this type of activity is new is a concern.
Most of what has passed for the digital revolution is little more than old wine in new bottles.
Good old fashion crooks using new technology to commit good old fashion crimes.
P2P falls squarely within this paradigm.
We are yet to see any business or individual influenced by the net creating something genuinely new that is, as such, determined by the net.
