MPAA ‘Pause Parent Play’

p2pnet.net News:- In what must be the most sickening and transparent corporate propaganda/marketing ploy yet, Hollywood and a host of ‘caring’ organizations are partners in a new campaign they boast is to, “help parents decide what their kids watch, hear and play”.

Pause Parent Play is, “dedicated to making it easier for parents to choose which movies and TV shows their kids watch, songs they listen to and video games they play,” they say with Hollywood’s MPAA as the front organization.

“We are delighted to join this effort, which is really all about empowering parents to make informed choices about their kids’ entertainment,” lies MPAA boss Dan Glickman.

Translated, that means “Our marketing people have come up with another really terrific scam to get at kids through their parents, and we’re 100% confident the mainstream media will pick this up and run with it.”

Four US senators are also unashamedly “serving” as “informal advisors”. They are Rick Santorum (R-Pa), Joe Lieberman (D-Conn), John Ensign (R-Nev) and Mark Pryor (D-Ark).

So what kind of help can these needy parents get?

Under movies, there’s a, “summary of WalMart’s Mature merchandise policy”. Under music, they’ll get a “summary of WalMart’s Mature merchandise policy”.And under video games, you guessed it.

But that’s not to say WalMart is all there is to Pause Parent Play.

The movies sections offers helpful hints on “Locks and Limits” from Hughes, Philips, RCA, Sony, Dish Networks and V-Chip.

Music will get you to valuable parental advice from the MPAA’s brother organization, the RIAA, which is currently trying to sue not only mums and dads, but their children as well, into buying ‘product’. Here, you’ll also find blocking information from XM Sattellite, Sirius Sattellite and XM radio that’s essential for any caring parent.

And the video games section notes, “Pause Parent Play is not responsible for external content.”

What well-known parenting organizations are ‘partnered’ with Hollywood’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America)?

The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), National Cable and Telecommunications Association, Entertainment Software Rating Board, Entertainment Software Association, Interstate Battery System of America, News Corporation, Time Warner, Comcast, Viacom, Wal-Mart, Tyco, Video Software Dealers Association, The Parenting Group, a division of Time, Microsoft, NBC Universal,

And oh yeh. the YMCA and Girl Scouts of the USA are in there too.

Mothers and fathers who think they need help from this venal collection of hard-core manufacturing and sales corporations to decide what their kids see and do are themselves in desperate need of professional counseling.

Only in America.

We hope.

Oh goodie, is this as effective as the last one that would help parents search for mp3s on a computer and helpfully delete them for you?

Since its filtering was non-existant, it just as faithfully reported to the inquirer necessary sound files for the OS as it reported those dastardly mp3’s. What it proved to me was in spite of all the foo-faw-raa over the RIAA demanding that p2ps use filters to remove their stuff, was that they had no clue how to pull it off either. Far easier to demand SOMEONE do it for you than it is to show how to do it.

The above mentioned program died a quick and quiet death. I would suspect that it had to do with the “parents” having no clue as to what files were needed to run the OS sounds and that the complaints following using the deletion tool were loud after those parents discovered that the sound in the OS didn’t always work as it was supposed to after the files were removed.

Another dumb idea brought to you by the cartels…

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Oh have you heard?! “They” stepped up their propaganda war but putting up a NEW EXECUTIVE (as in the USA Government) position for fighting IP “violations” by none other than CNN/Time Warner’s CHRIS ISRAEL, yes Chris Israel!

WTF?!!! This shit is not letting up. It’s only getting worse.

“Don’t “fight” the media, “be” the media!” — A famous quote from indymedia.

That means fight DIS-INFORMATION with actual true INFORMATION.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

it’s a software? i don’t see any mention of that in the article. it seems like PPP is a website with guidelines and nothing else.

and what has Walmart to do with it? that just comes out of nowhere. suddenly in the article, walmart is mentioned? is PPP a list or guide to see when going in the walmart video aisles? what the hell?

    what is it???

As a concerned parent I applaud the concept

    As a concerned parent …

You should be horrified by the ever-increasing incursions into your rights of privacy.

You should be indignant at the idea of some self-serving conglomeration of money-grubbers wanting to impose its ideas, concepts, and mentally aberrant self-righteousness upon you and your children – whether you like it or not.

You should be horrified by the implications this has for the rights which will be denied to your children in the not-too-distant future!

A concerned parent should take the time to become actively involved with his/her children, teaching them the concepts of ethics, using the sick machinations of the Hollywood cartels as examples of the abrogation of civil decency.

Tell me, if you had lived in Nazi Germnany in the 1930’s, would you have applauded the concept of “Hitler Youth”?

As a concerned, patriotic American, I am filled with dread when I see and read of these things. The “Bill of Rights” is not just some old-fashioned, outdated after-thought to our Constitution! If those rights had not been guaranteed as Constitutional provisions, we would not be the United States of America, because most of the colonies would not had ratified the Constitution without them.

I would like to be able to say that those inalienable rights are being slowly eroded — but slowly is not the applicable adverb, here.

Tell me you’re joking. Please …

You don’t care about your kids very much, do you.

    Idiot.

And a Troll to boot. Get back under your bridge.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

If you need an UNETHICAL organization like the MPAA/RIAA (aka promotors of “sex, drugs, and rock-&-roll”) to “teach” your kids values, they I’m sorry but YOU are the TROLL! If YOU don’t know how to raise your kids up properly, you have your priorities in the wrong places.

    True idiot you are indeed!

Since I’m taking it that you are the same person who wrote the original post, then you are talking about yourself, not me, and it clearly shows that you *ARE* an idiot. I don’t need some greedy corporate backstabber to tell me how to raise my kids, and I will not allow it, either. Which is what I was getting at. Since you even said that you approve of the concept, who is truly the idiot here?

    Not me, definately you.

So get back under your bridge troll.

    End of Conversation.

Thank God I’m not an American…no wonder that most of us europeans think of them as dumb !
    Only in America…

  10. Reader's Write Says:

As a concerned parent with a busy professional life, I don’t have the time to actually sit down and see what my kids are watching or playing. I welcome the good people at this organization to provide me with a list of what they feel I should allow my children to buy or watch already provided for me.

Previously I had relied on the services of my local church to help me decide which games are and are not appropriate. They helped me steer my children away from Harry Potter material, which is dangerously close to the suicidal and morals-corrupting D&D cult.

However as a consumer I recognize that the church may not be selecting items for my children in their best interest. Leaving my marketing choices up to professionals already experienced in the industry to decide for me will free up more time to pursue my career goals and ensure my children are getting the proper care and attention.
