For those of you who Don’t Know….
This NEW windows version will not only contain DRM CRIPPLING in every nook and cranny (from kernel to programming to applications), but will contain something even more dreaded….
…. This hasn’t been touched upon yet, and as a result many people don’t know about it. Do you remember the “death” of the British Scientist who was outspoken about Blair’s warmongering and what he ACTUALLY knew! Well, the MS Word memo (in fact any MS document) contained hidden text along with who wrote it. Well, it turns out there was FOUL play involved. Now take a MS word document for example, it not only “randomly” contains stuff you wrote and DELETED from the file, and PUTS it BACK HIDDEN in clear text and encrypted format into the file —> That’s why those MS docs are so LARGE and they VARY in size (for the same amount of content). But it doesn’t end there, the MS applications ALSO SEARCHES your HARD DRIVE and LOGS WHAT YOU TYPE outside of the file and inserts it hidden into the MS file. There have been numerous cases of this in the media, where the government / industry espionage has been caught.
…. Do a search, use ANTIWORD and if you’re good at decrypting, you’ll find lots of INFORMATION about the person who created/edited the MS files given to you.
Now, what Windows Vista does is take it to the next level. Now whatever you create (whether music, docs, excel, video, mp3, ANYTHING) will have YOUR digital signature on it, along with YOUR PERSONAL information. It will be digitally embedded in multiple bytes THROUGHOUT EVERYTHING you author! Can you be sure you can “filter” and “remove” EVERY SINGLE digital signature?!
Bingo! RIAA / MPAA’s dream come true. Now they can come knocking on your door (since they’ll likely know your IP address — and from there CAN (with the help of the now permanent “PATRIOT ACT”) come to your private home). BAM!!! You’re now declared a “terrorist” and will likely spend 20, 30 or life in prison (since they also ENLARGED THE PENALTY)!
Note that this is not JUST DRM, it is more. Much more. If you value your HUMAN RIGHTS and FREEDOM, don’t play into THEIR hands. Don’t buy their “stuff”. If you “must” have it, buy it used (they can be easily got from a pawn shop or from second-hand music stores) — they’re just a good while at the same time NOT pumping additional cash into these UNETHICAL and ILLEGAL organizations.
And finally, learn to use GNU/Linux. Go to
dyne.org
And you can download for FREE the latest version of dynebolic 1.4.1 which is LIGHTEN FAST and lets you do just about everything. Plus, you don’t have to install it on your hard drive. So when you are ready, go to
http://www.distrowatch.com
And select your favorite GNU/Linux distribution. I personally recommend DEBIAN based (i.e. Knoppix, Ubuntu, etc) since they are the most free (in terms of freedom)!

These are some pretty draconian allegations here… if you have such concrete proof why not go public…
Any news network would be salivating over such revelations.. and there are several government agencies which would be happy to prosecute M$ for:
deceptive trade practices
violation of privacy
computer fraud (installing keyloggers without a users’s knowledge or consent falls afoul of the anti-hacking /computer fraud laws).
Constitutional violations galore
I’ve never seen one of these things you talk about crammed in a word file… and i’ve opened plenty of word documents in plain old textedit.
Did it ever occur to you that perhaps it was not so much spying on you as saving your previous words to allow you to say… use the undo button?
I don’t mean to discount your revelations… but if such proof exists.. you should take it to CNN or MSNBC (I know fox won’t run with it.. they’re not al queda)

Well with this name change perhaps that means Steve Ballmer has finally gotten over his Viagra dependence. You can see a clip of him years ago before he went to rehab:

I don’t know if all the first posters claims are true or not. I do know that this is true…
Since the days of 3.1 Windows, there has always been a record in the software of everything you install, download, and what drive and directory.
There are many places on the net where you can find the old hidden files and where they resided and how to get to them. Incidently, I would add that those places don’t show up in a search. Neither in DOS nor in the software.
That there are at least two types of hidden files within XP. One can be seen by going to the route of show hidden files. The other takes a registry entry for you to see it. (You might search for superhidden on the net for the registry modification.) There are other files that can not be seen even with the superhidden registry entry. Otherwise you would be able to see some of the entries made by worms and trojans.
I would suspect that microsucks has not dropped these practices but rather increased the security and methods to do so, making it ever harder for anyone not authorized to view those files.

I bought a new puter about two or so years ago with WinnersXP pre-loaded on one of its two HD’s. XP is on hda and linux is on hdb. I’ve not downloaded either of the service packs and using ZoneAlarm I deny internet access to all applications except the ones I choose, particularly explorer.exe. Why does windows explorer need to access the internet? In short it doesn’t. So it doesn’t. And I don’t use WinnersXP unless I absolutely have to. Nuff said.
If I were any of you I’d think long and hard before purchasing Langhorny soon to be aka WinnersVista. WinnersVista is nothing but a “tarbaby”, hoo-boy, sho-nuff is. Once you plunge an ill-suspecting digit into that ball o’ yucky black goo, the rest of you will eventually get sucked in too. Extracting yourself will be quite costly and the cost will only grow the longer you wait, sho-nuff do tell!
With Langhorny aka WinnersVista you will no longer have control over your computer. Everyone who sends content to it will be in control. Initially content provider control will be limited to DVDs and high definiton streams. Soon to follow will be pay per view website like news sites or game sites. Eventually most web sites will want control over your computer. Copyright protection from you scum, you know. They will put their deal on your computer and charge you for it. They will improve your viewing expierence for fun-n-profit, sho-nuff, hooo-eeee! Of-coursin they’s gonna need what amounts to a “closed box” to “protect” their deal from you…er, a…to make sure your able to have a full viewing experience. Being a tight-butt might degrade your experience.
The PC became popular because of its openness. You could pull stuff out and put other stuff in with wanton abandon. Now you will only be able to put “approved” stuff in your box. If the stuff you install is not approved your puter will not work so good. It will become more and more useless unless of coursre you pull the unapproved stuff out and install that-thar apporved stuff.
One bright spot in this whole tragic nightmare is that if Langhorny aka WinnersVista thinks the premium content provider has done tol-it that they’s is no need-ta rouse hisself up, sho-nuff content can be played without incident. Hoo-Boy! Sho-nuff said.

It seems that having a really good file manager would be a plus. One that could see all the files on your hard drive even thoes in the boot sector. Before too long vendors will try to put hidden partitions on your hard drives so that they can put their DRM and other stuff in it making the partiton almost impossible to access and view for the ordinary user.

The name change is ment to throw-off the ill informed. Just like Palladium was changed to Next Generation Secure Comping Base once word spread that it was really treacherous coputing in stead of trusted computing.

I believe this name will stick although it seems to be more open to satire and parody than Longhorn (if that was possible!
). People are already taking the p*ss: http://www.bestpricecomputers.ltd.uk/humour/windows-vista.htm

Are you telling me that “vista” is somehow more entertaining to skewer than “longhorn”?..
Longhorn is THE quintessential name for any microsoft product…
it is evocative of a bloated, slow, and idiotic animal which is best put to use by hacking it up! =)..
I’m sorry but vista just does not compare when it comes to that.
