Big Music sues more Britons
p2pnet.net News:- Predictably, with its RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) victimizing men, women and children in the US, the Big Four record label cartel has just set its UK RIAA clone on Britons.
The BPI (British Phonographic Industry) says civil proceedings are being issued today against three men and two women in King`s Lynn, Crawley, Port Talbot, Brighton and South Glamorgan.
The BPI will claim compensation and costs on behalf of its member record companies whose music has been uploaded on to peer-to-peer networks without permission, it says.
As with other cartel enforcers, the BPI first attempts to shake people down with shabby ’settlement’ offers.
Then, the law must take its course, it says. We will be seeking an injunction and full damages for the losses they have caused, in addition to the considerable legal costs we are incurring as a result of their illegal activity.”
In the meanwhile, Big Music’s efforts notwithstanding, file sharing continues to increase around the world as music lovers demonstrate their refusal to buy shoddy, grossly over-priced mp3s, preferring to look instead to independent sites and the p2p networks.

“in addition to the considerable legal costs we are incurring as a result of their illegal activity.”
Well if you weren’t trying to sue them it wouldn’t be costing you anything now would it?
Oh i’m sorry, i’m using logic again aren’t i? Bad me.

Also “full damages for the losses they have caused” – this will be interesting. What losses can be *proven* to have been caused by uploading mp3s? At most, I’d have thought the current cost of the tracks on iTunes, though how they will prove that the persons unknown who downloaded from these people would have otherwise purchased the tracks remains to be seen. A very interesting case. Thanks to those obstinate sharers who’re stading up to the bullies. They deserve our support.
