Oppose European Snoop Law

p2pnet.net News:- Two things top the international corporate want lists:

Your money; and, Information about you.

All that stand between you and your data and the likes of the entertainment and software cartels, and mega-monopolists such as Bill and the Boyz, are privacy rights.

In Europe, they’ve using the threat of terrorism to make sure the Framework Decision on Data Retention goes through, meaning ISPs and telcos will be compelled to collect data on you.

Because the conglomerates own most of the large corporate print and electronic media outlets, they’re able to directly or indirectly control them, which means to all intents and purposes, they have their fingers on the volume controls.

However, as with all else, it ultimately comes down to numbers versus loudness.

Does this look right to you?

I believe that:

- Data retention is an invasive tool that interferes with the private lives of everyone;

- Retaining personal data on everyone is an illegal practice in terms of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, as it is disproportionate;

- Security gained from retention may be illusory, as it is likely that traffic data that is associated to one individual may actually be linked to activity taken by another, or by a process that is unrelated to the activities of that user;

- The means through which this policy is being pursued is illegitimate, as some member states who have failed to pass this policy through their own Parliaments are now trying to push it through the EU instead in the name of harmonisation and international cooperation.

I call upon the European Commission and the European Parliament to examine the proposal for data retention very critically and uphold the protection of human rights, including privacy, in these difficult times.

If it does, put your name to it and join the 12,820 people who’d already signed by 10:14 am, Pacific.

Add to the numbers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The European ministers of Justice and the European Commission want to keep all telephone and internet traffic data of all 450 million Europeans. If you are concerned about this plan, please sign the petition.

What’s wrong with data retention? The proposal to retain traffic data will reveal who has been calling and e-mailing whom, what websites people have visited and even where they were with their mobile phones. Telephone companies and internet services providers would be ordered to store all traffic data of their customers. Police and intelligence agencies in Europe would be granted access the traffic data. Various, competing proposals in Brussels mention retention periods from 6 months up to four years.

Data retention is an invasive tool that interferes with the private lives of all 450 million people in the European Union. Data retention is a policy that expands powers of surveillance in an unprecedented manner. It simultaneously revokes many of the safeguards in European human rights instruments, such as the Data Protection Directives and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Data retention means that governments may interfere with your private life and private communications regardless if you are suspected of a crime or not.

Data retention is not a solution to terrorism and crime!

In July 2005 the European Parliament adopted a report by Parliament member Alexander Alvaro on the mandatory data retention plan. The report concludes that the proposal is disproportionate. The report also questions the necessity, effectiveness and high costs for industry and telecommunication users.

No research has been conducted anywhere in Europe that supports the need and necessity of creating such a large-scale database containing such sensitive data for the purpose of fighting crime and terrorism.

The attacks on London are an attack on human rights. The protection of those human rights matters most when governments and societies face times of crisis. The worst possible response would be to jeopardise those carefully wrought rights by a panic-inspired response. A mass surveillance response to terror would result in a resounding success for the perpetrators of these attacks: a fundamental undermining of our most fundamental values.

What can you do to stop this plan?

If you are concerned about the European plans for data retention, please sign the petition and alert as many people as you can to support this campaign.

The signatures will be sent to the European Commission and the European Parliament.

    The new proposed law is a violation of your personal rights. I know some of you “truly” believe their excuses they make — the prime excuse is “we need to track each and everyone of you, in order to effectively ‘combat’ terrorism”…..

    …. Now if you believe that, then you deserve what’s coming to you. Because the most effective method to reduce terrorism, is to stop EXPORTING terrorism in the first place.

    Ask yourself, from the times of the “Crusades” until now. HOW MANY times have the “West” (don’t feel bad if you’re from the West, because I’m from the West yet I, like many many others, don’t support this racial/religious persecution) “interfered” (i.e. came over and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people, yes hundreds of thousand…. each and everyone of those victims “had” a name)?!

    You can’t expect to break into someone’s home, slit their mother’s throat, rape their sister, castrate and drag the bloodied body of their brother, smashed the brains of their infant, humiliate and steal from their grandparents, burn and demolish their homes……

    …. then claim to have “liberated” them. You don’t really, truly believe your a saint doing it out of the goodness of your heart, do you?

    My friends and I, come from privileged families. My friend, a local country boy is a nice “western” person —– Yet, I know, he knows, and all of our friends know — that if, IF, ANYONE does something horrible to ANY member of his family or friends —- being yelled at or feeling guilty for their act against humanity, is the LEAST they have to worry about.

    I’d like to repeat he is a REALLY KIND person. But you have to admit, even kind people will not tolerate abuse to their loved ones…

    To understand the tactic one has to look at the strategy. The strategy is to reduce the world’s population to “manageable levels” (300 million people), to use the population as servants who act solely at the whim of the “elite,” and for the “elite” to have total control over the affairs of all mankind. The tactic is to create or exagerate a problem and then provide “different choices” for solving the problem. Please read the entire the rest of this before getting angry at me or calling me a traitor and so on.

    Terrorism is a problem for two reasons. The first reason is because we are dealing with fanactically violent people hell-bent on the destruction of the Western society. These people are the ones that hate Western culture so much that they are willing to kill themselves to destroy it. Many of the people are murderous bastards who kill innocent people without regard for human life. The second reason is because these people have a legitimate gripe. The multinational cartels have for many years supported governments that have utterly repressed these people. After years of oppression people get tired of being pushed about by those in power.

    I can feel this repression even here in the P.S.A. How many people here have heard the statement, “You can’t fight city hall?” It is very true that city hall will beat you just about every time in court. People have very little representation (nearly zero) in the court or government system unless they have more money that the opposition. With that said, I am neutral in the “war on terror.” I think both sides are evil and are in the wrong.

    However, like the rest of the world, I am forced to pay a price for a war I want no part in. I am forced to pay higher taxes and see my rights ignored by the government. I also have to be on the lookout for stray packages, do my own form of profiling and be on guard in public areas. I also find myself taking a second look at Muslims. I hate having to do this because I know that most Muslims are decent people who are just trying to make their way in life and want nothing to do with murdering people.

    Actually, what I would like to see is every Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Bhuddist, and people of other faith stand up to the governments of the world and say enough is enough. Unfortunately, most religious instututions have been corrupted at the top and now
    server one perpose. This purpose is to keep the masses submissive to government and cartel control. It is time to break out of this control. It is time for people of all faiths to break the chains of their bonds (no, I’m not advocating people abandoning their faith) and free their minds. Once we realize that we are slaves can we begin to win our freedom.

    There are many things we can do to keep the governments and cartels out of our live and break their controls. One of the main things is for us to as much as possible quit using their products.

    The Internet WILL become the PRIME method use to spy on us in spite of what we do to prevent it. The more we use it the more information and control the cartels and government will have on us. I say for the people to form ad-hoc local wide area networks called (FreeWan) Cells. These cells can be operated by individual residents. I wireless router can be setup so that it logs nothing (no logs = way to go). Information can be carried between cells via CD’s and DVD’s, memory cards, jump drives, laptop computers, wireless links, improvised DSL or cable links, and as a last resort an encrypted connection over the cartel controlled internet.

    In many P.S.A. cities and cities in the UK, cameras are used to track people. These cameras can be easily blinded from out of range with laser pointers. Many can be knocked out with a well placed rock, pellet or even a baseball bat. I find it so hipocritical that the governments wants so much freedom in using technology to spy on the people, yet they balk and protest citizens effort to do the same to them. I say to the governments the same thing they like to say to us, “If you have done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.” I believe that we should have the right to listen in on the communications of all officials and judges. If they don’t like this, then they shouldn’t do the same to us.

    People should learn about local sources for food. Not only should people look at crop plants, but they should also look for native plants that might be used as food. In my area, I planted edible native vegetation that propsers within the ecosystem. I advise others to do the same. One should have handy local methods of finding and collecting water. If and when governments do crack down on the population, dependence on food and water will become primary means of control.

    As far as the terrorsts are concerned, I have done nothing to you. I have boycotted the product of the cartels that oppress people to the best of my knowlege. I only buy vehicles that are economical on gasoline. I try to buy nothing new and everything used as far as electronics are concerned. I do this because I know most things are manufactured by people who receive little pay for their work. Those who use terrorists tactics to strike at enemies should realize that many of the people who travel on the underground and busses are the same ones who protested the war in Iraq. The people the terrorists attacked last month have little to say as far as their government policy is concerned.

    The same goes for the people within the United States. Most of the people killed in the attack on the World Trade Centers were everyday slaves just trying to make a living. Most would give substantial amounts of money to lift the oppressed out of their misery. However, it is the governments and the cartels who take most of this money. Whatever we give is stolen by those in power. When terrorist attack regular people, they are attacking th wrong target. Enough of these attacks will cause mob action against those who are carrying out the attacks. When Marvin Heemeyer carried out his attack in Granby, Colorado, he made his point and did not hurt a single person other than himself. I’m sure he punished city hall for any inconvenience it caused him.

    When the L.A. police got away with attacking Rodney King, I was appalled at the sight of the Black mobs attacking local businesses. Most of these small business owners had nothing to do with the police battery on Rodney King. If the rioters targeted those responsible for the attack and the coverup afterwards, then the government might have had a healthy fear of the population and would think twice about what they did to citizens in the future.

    As far as the cartels are concerned, they have destroyed many nation and many of a civilization in the persuit of the almighty dollar. Here lies the real criminals. These people work families who have to live in shanty towns for little or nothing while they fly around in their big Lear jets. Like many court and government officials, they think of people as objects or merchandise rather than human beings.

    These are the people who have the power to make the world a better place, but choose to bribe leaders and prop up despots and tyrants. These are the ones who make sweetheart deals with one another while shutting out the little guy from being able to make a living. I have seen many of a small company which actively cared about people be shut out by the corporate fat cats which are able to receive special tax breaks and privileges that are unavailable to the small business ower. Yes, I believe in capitalism. However I do not believe in facism, and that is what is being practiced these days in the age of corporate welfare and no bid contracts.

    In America we may live like kings, but we have to work like slaves. Each year, we live less and less like kings and work more and more like slaves. This is one reason why we have crazies going around and shooting places up. I want to say this to all the government, courts and cartels, “Your days are numbered. People are getting tired of you and are looking for ways to get you out of their lives.” You days of swindling people using the force of the government are drawing to a close. Enjoy it while you can, because it is not going to last.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

    Amen.

    I truly hope that the eyes of the understanding of many people can be opened throught messages like this.
    People need to take a break out of the stressed routine most of us live in and look around to see what’s happening to our World, take a moment of reflection and gather knowledge, for it’s ignorance of the true facts that enslaves people. Learn the truth, and that will set us on the path to freedom, only then will we be ready to act upon this, when the numbers of people of knowledge and character increase to such a level that the governments of this world will not be able to shut us up from spreading the truth in an efficient fashion.

    Thanks for reading.
